Anybody know if they make a handbook a la DiPiro or Robbin's? The two-volume set is a little tough to lug around...

they do make Dipiro in handbook; I keep one around the pharmacy desk to save space

Pshhh just use year brain. Who uses tertiary references

Not sure about Mandells having a pocket guide, but here is the Sanford guide to Infectious Disease. (I think this is supposed to be the Infectious Disease bible/quran/torah/etc)

The Sanford Guide is good for recommended treatments and drug/bug sort of things, but it doesn't have anything for pathophysiology, diagnostics, etc. The DiPiro section on ID is alright, but it's a real basic level of knowledge.

Hopefully someone does...🙂

If it's not in Sanford or hard to find/not that much info, I usually use hopkins abx guide which usually tells enough about patho and ancillary info. If I need more info than that there's probably an ID consult involved so I wouldn't worry too much about having a ginormous book.

Unless you are the ID consult...in which case nevermind everything I said

Haha, funny you should ask...I'm with the ID consult service now. Every time I see a book mention "ID consult recommended" I cringe a little.

The Hopkins Abx guide is awesome, though. Great rundown of almost everything. The only problem I find with it (and most other references) is that using it requires a diagnosis in hand. Without that, it's tough to come up with empiric treatment options (or lack thereof).
