Marriage as Most Meaningful

So a friend of mine who applied last year with decent stats (3.75/eq 33) who is matriculating into BU Med next year listed his marriage as one of his most meaningful activities. He tied it together by talking how he met his wife volunteering with Red Cross and how their shared passion in the field and with each other heightened each other's experiences at Red Cross and the people they helped yada yada .

Thoughts on including personal details such as marriage/a relationship as being, if not meaningful, worth mentioning?

Just hope that none of the interviewers are single, bitter, and forever alone . 😛 (just joking... kinda)

Personally, I would mention it if I was married at the time of application -- it would make for potentially great conversations.

I'd be really weirded out if my SO put me down on their app as an 'activity' (presumably with hours listed). Just...no. Your relationship is not a professional-application-appropriate 'activity'. Sure, talk somewhere in there, preferably one of the parts that's about you as a person (secondary, etc) about how your family/spouse means so much to you and your life is better with them in there, etc...but as an activity?!? It'd be like listing 'husband/daughter/cousin/aunt/grandpa/godmom' on your resumé...just not appropriate for the context.
