Hey guys,
I am a junior undergraduate and my GPA is currently a 3.2 and my science is around 2.8. I have about three quarters left at my university. My chances to get into a DO program is quite low. I was wondering what kind of masters program should I be researching for? Could it be any masters program or does it have to be a Special Masters Program made for medical school. Please give me as much info as possible.

This probably belongs in what are my chances section. Also, do a search. There is a plethora of information on SDN about SMP's and other post-bacc options:

You're only a junior. Applying to DO schools gives you the advantage of grade replacement. You can bump your sGPA up to 3.2+ by retaking the classes you did worst in and getting A's. If it means adding a few quarters or even another year to undergrad, it is still cheaper than an SMP (and remember that master's progs won't help your undergrad GPA). Focus on upping the sGPA, then kill the MCAT and apply in 2012.

I'm sure most people here would suggest working hard on getting all A's for the next few terms and focus on getting a good score on the MCAT 28+. There's so many other factors that come into play than just your gpa when it comes to getting an acceptance.

If you decide to go into the master's program, go into a program that you will enjoy and will benefit from overall. Focus on the tasks in front of you and you'll do just fine!

Umm I see what you guys are trying to say but I am still not very confident. When u guys say retake my classes do u guys mean classes that I got a B on? I have like 2 cs which I am going to retake but what about those classes that gave a B- and B? Should I retake those too?

No. I would not retake the B's. If you have extra time/money for classes try to add some upper division bio courses. I think most adcom's like to see you doing well now and that you can handle upper division courses beyond the standard prerequisites. Especially with a low science GPA.

OP. A traditional MS is fine. I did a 1.75 year accelerated traditional masters program in forensics and clinical forensic medicine and was accepted no problems...and with a GPA WAY WAY lower than yours.
