We had to use Mastering Biology and Mastering Physics for class and I am just curious if anyone thinks this is a good resource to use for MCAT prep.

I think it would be especially for cementing the harder to grasp concepts. Just identify your weaknesses and focus on that chapter and questions.

Let me elaborate a bit.

MCAT review can be expensive. Some methods/review books are hit or miss. The books provide either not enouh or too much.

Using Mastering Bio/Chem/Physics would provide a text and review questions that are at times pretty elaborate and difficult. But the explanations are fantastic and provide a great review. Use the AAMC outline and go through the review questions. Follow up with FL and practice questions from whatever source you want and boom, you're set.

The questions are unlike the question stems that the AAMC gives out. IF you want to get it, do so, but I think it is a bad idea and money should be spent elsewhere.

I think it would only be useful for content review and cementing those concepts. I am not advocating it as the only practice problems.

I used the mastering physics lectures while I was taking physics undergrad and I found them extremely useful. Unfortunately it's not perfectly aligned with MCAT topics but I think that those videos are the BEST resource available for clearing up difficult science concepts. I scored a 14 on the PS section of my MCAT and was thankful for having watched the mastering physics lectures.

But like another poster said, there aren't many useful "MCAT-style" review questions with mastering physics/chemistry, so it's not perfect. I think it's a great supplement for anyone who is currently taking a physics pre-req and will eventually take the MCAT. Just my 2 cents.

Which book was your mastering physics associated with?
