Hi,

I'm an IMG looking to apply for the Match of this year. A month ago I applied to the green card through my wife. In the beginning, the lawyer said that I will have a work permit (EAD) between 3-5 months, but recently, there was a notification from the Government stating that the EAD will be given between 6-8 months. So I might have an EAD for March.

So, it is very likely that I will definitely have an EAD for July. Do you think that this may harm my application? Should I apply this year or the next one?

Thank you

ps: My current status is J1 and I already have a waiver from my country.

For clarification, if your under a J-1 Visa Status and no longer a student, are you not temporary put on forbearance or did you apply at least 90 days before the processing of your I-766 documentation?

Only in the experience of my own wife (and doing the process nearly 7 years ago) she received an “accepted-pending” status that allowed her to work as a social worker before the official issuance of her work permit.

Take it to a grain of salt, but if the background and pending status of your EAD is in the making some programs will give a 90 day proof of working-status if you were to match. I strongly encourage you to validate this as this was our case in 2012. Many policies have changed since then.
