match vs nonmatch issues...

😕 since the ortho sequence is essentially over for 2007, Im curious how others handled the prospect of accepting/declining a nonmatch position before the match date. I went ahead and accepted nonmatch program after lengthy discussions with all match programs I interviewed with. It seems as though the system for match participation is "working" because although the match programs essentially advised me of a match, they would NOT go all the way and assure me of same and would not advise declining the offer from nonmatch program. I figured "a bird in the hand", and took the lesser desired nonmatch position............

It's like Deal or No Deal. The program directors were like the people sitting at home saying: "you have to take this deal - why risk it for something bigger when you have an awesome prize right now?" Going through the match is like saying "No Deal", and spinning the dice. Sure, you could get something nicer, but there is a chance of going home empty handed. So, I commend your decision.
