Hello everyone. i am current high senior graduating in a few weeks. planning on starting pre med track. i have an issue regarding my math requirment. in high school i took Pre-calculus
but never was able to take the second semester of it which is Trig part. i met with my college advisor few weeks ago and we discussed this. now i have 2 options
1st semester - pre calculus
2nd semester- calculus 1
Summer- calculus 2
Or
i take the rest of my pre calculus over the summer at CC and be able to take calculus 1 and 2 during my freshmen year
which one is good idea?
I know i can easily get A in pre calculus because i did very well in high school.

When you say, take precal in summer and take calc 1 & 2 during freshman year, does this mean taking calc 1 in fall an calc 2 in spring, or does this mean taking calc 1 & 2 all in 1 fall semester? the first senario sounds like a beautiful plan if you don't have any summer plans. for the second scenario, i'd take Pre-cal over the summer in order to take calc 1 &2 during fall only to graduate earlier, and only because I would believe that I can handle calc 1 & 2 both in 1 semester. Therefore, you should consider wether you'll be able to handle calc 1 & 2 in 1 semester. (I don't want to make it sound like you can't do it! Just asses wether you personally think you'll be able to handle those 2 classes at the same time.) Check out a calc book from the library (calc 1 &2 is covered all in 1 calc textbook.) Watch Khan Academy videos and ask yourself, "Am I comfortable with calculus?" Some people may doubt you doing this because you will be a college freshman, and will suggest you take Pre cal in the fall, and the calc's the following semester. But everyone is different and has a different comfort level with math.

In the end, i still don't know wether you're talking about my first or second scenario when you mention taking calc over the summer in order to take calc 1 & 2 during freshman year
Other than that, Your advisor came up with 2 good plans. Just think about it Peace

I say do the precalc over the summer IF you're absolutely sure you're very good at math (which i guess is the case 😛), otherwise just start with precalc at the university this fall. Good luck with whichever decision you go with!

Sorry for the Confusion, let me clarify both plans
Fall freshmen year : Pre-Calculus
Spring Freshmen year: Calc 1
Summer: Calc 2

or

This Summer before College: Pre-Calc which I took most of it in high school ( I feel like I can easily handle it)
Fall Freshmen year: Calc 1
Spring Freshmen year: Calc 2
this leaves the summer to do whatever I want, mostly volunteer, job, or any Research if available

well then, the plans are even more clear. Do your summer with the easier class + get the summer class over with now. 👍

Do this ^

Thank you guys, i feel i am looking for good start as of now because in high school i was able to take English college credit and got really good grade in it. according to my advisor i do not need to take English ( satisfied my General Ed requirement for English) just the math is the issue.

oh that's cool, great job! Good luck in college 😀
