Just wondering what schools will think if you dont complete your graduate work before you start medschool? ive heard that they really dont care that much about grad work (its the undergrad they are concerened about). im in a little dilemma. my department wants me to study for, and take my Masters comps in the summer. i told them that i am moving this summer to Chicago to start school and i also need to work. my question is this...would a medschool think about taking your acceptance away becuase you didnt get the Masters degree (even though ive finished all the coursework)? they never said that my acceptance was conditional on me finishing my grad work. this was something i was just doing until i went to medschool. please let me know??

I think you should call the Med school and ask them about that. They should let you know.
GOOD LUCK

Yeah, I would call and ask. I am sure it won't be a problem. I left my graduate program before I finished in order to start med. school and nobody said a thing.

who did you talk to when you called and asked them? ive heard so many stories of people leaving their graduate programs once they found out they got accepted to medschool. i dont forsee it being a problem.

my friend was doing his MPH, and just got into med school for the coming fall. so he discontinued the MPH program without completing it and his med school had no problem with it. good luck

cheers!

When I was accepted at UHS, they provided me a list of classes (biochemistry) that I must complete before I started the program. I'm sure if your acceptance was dependent upon anything, they would have to let you know up front.

Good luck!

thats what i was also thinking. even if i didnt get the actual degree, i would still have all the graduate courses i took to add to my file. i would guess that this would be better then not having any grad work at all, so i dont see how they could penalize you for it??

Talk about looking in a mirror... I'm in exactly the same situ as you are... my comps are scheduled for July 13 - a date when I had planned to move to medical school by...

I've completed all my coursework for my MSc - all it comes down to is passing the comps. When I asked my medical school, they were only concerned with my transcripts that stated that I have my bachelor's degree.

So, do I delay my move to Florida and sit and take my comps? Are those extra letters really gonna help me down the road? My goal was never to get my 2nd degree - rather it was a stepping stone into medical school.

Will I finish my masters? Yeah... I started it - so I'm going to finish it. That's pretty much my rationale for it. Then again, I'm self-admitted anal-ytical. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Buckeye-

Unless your acceptance letter had a conditional provision in it, the school can't deny your matriculation because you decided not complete your masters program.

As far as the extra letter behind your name... it doesn't really matter. You gained the knowledge from the courses, and in an interview you can always emphasize that you have the knowledge and the training even though you don't have the degree.

So now you're onlly question is whether or not you want to complete the program for your own satisfaction.

Good luck in the fall!

Would you later regret not getting the degree when all you had to do was take the test? You put in all that hard work! Getting in to medical school is not the end--now you have to compete for residency and that extra education may help significantly. I would consider how important it is to move THAT week.

Most osteopathic schools really don't care if you finish your graduate work unlike allopathic schools. Several of my classmates started graduate work in order to boost grades for acceptance into med school. Once they gained admission they dropped out of the graduate programs and started med school. So I know most osteopathic schools don't care. Always check to make sure.

Amra,
sounds like you and I are in the EXACT same situation. i tried to take mine early (this quarter), but one of the professors on my committe went APE SH!!T on me because i wasnt finished taking his course yet (histology). so now im stuck with finishing histo this spring and taking the comps in the summer (if it works out). i wonder what CCOM's policy is on this? anyone know???
