I see quite few May MCATers still posting on the April thread so i've decided to start up another one specifically for us. Please state what day in May your test is, your FL score, the test you took(Kaplan,TPR, AAMC, or EK) and under what condition the test was taken.I guess I'll go first:

Test Date: May 11

AAMC CBT 3r: PS(9), Vr(10), BS(8)--->27
Alot people said that the aamc 3r is the easiest.....i guess my score doesn't reflect that.🙁

AAMC CBT 4R: PS(11), VR(9), BS(10)---->30
While i'm glad that I improved, i must say that i took it under non-standard condition. For example, the test was untimed and i had to "re-check" some concepts and formulas from my TPR book for may be two or three questions. The PS section was quite challenging .....at least for me.

so which one of you very intelligent sdners is taking the test may 25? hopefully none right? lol

well i guess i will post my scores...

i started with a horrible kaplan diagnostic of like an 18

but most recently i got a 13 11 8 (verbal, bio, phys.) on aamc 4

on aamc 10 i only did verbal, i had to pause it because something came up but i got a 14... i heard that one was pretty tough so im pretty pleased... would it be unreasonable to strive for a 15 in verbal?

and any advice on getting a ten on phys... lol... im starting private tutoring this saturday, two hours a visit three times a week till the 25... anyone think the phys or bio can go up in that time?

thanks =)

I want to scream. I just took AAMC 7 and couldn't believe the lack of improvement:

1/25 3R 7 PS 8 BS 11 VR - 26
2/12 4 8 PS 10 BS 12 VR - 30
3/06 5 8 PS 11 BS 9 VR - 28
5/12 7 8 PS 9 BS 10 VR - 27

Granted, I did basically no MCAT studying since mid-February, but I've been studying purely physics and chem (read the EK chapters and did practice problems from the 1001 series) for 8-10 hrs a day for the past five days solid, and my PS still has not budged from an 8. Of course, I took Physics I and II this year (just finished in fact), and Chem I and II last summer, all with As. Why the @#@! can't I at least get a 9????? The calculations really get me. Why, oh why, can't we have a pop-up calculator like the periodic table?

And, my BS has dropped, likely because there was a lot of orgo on 7, and because I haven't reviewed any Bio for a few months. I'm praying not to get complex orgo problems on my MCAT.

So, now I just don't know what to study before the next practice test I'm taking next Wed. Keep working PS problems? Or read the EK orgo book for the first time (I did just finish the class, and it was a beast), or review BS, which I know I've gotten a little hazy on.

Thoughts? Suggestions? I'm DESPERATE. If I don't manage to pull this together next week I'm thinking of postponing to mid-June if I can find a seat. I'm currently taking it May 31st. ARGHGHGHGHGH.

Go through the tests you have taken, and especially pay attention to the TOPICS of the physical science questions you got wrong. Then review those topics until you have them down. Then go back to questions.

Just took AAMC 9 and I am thoroughly pleased with my results, although I did notice one oddity: did all the verbal passages in AAMC 9 seem extremely familiar to anyone? I swear to God I've seen each and everyone of those passages before with the same exact questions. Are they in any of the EK or TPR tests?

Anyways here is a brief review of all my scores to show my progress:

(All scores are PS-VR-BS)
TPR 4110: 7-7-11 (25)
TPR 4120: 10-5-11 (26)
AAMC 6: 11-10-10 (31)
AAMC 7: 12-10-12 (34)
AAMC 8: 12-10-13 (35)
AAMC 9: 13-11-13 (37)

I felt that PS was really easy and I made some dumb mistakes. VR is an unfair representation (seems to happen a lot with me, eh?) because I've had all those passages and questions before although I don't know from where. BS was hard because it requires a lot of knowledge of random details, but I pulled through. And for the BS section: wtf was with the finches and Darwin? Geez.

I finished the PS section with 25 mins left, the VR section with 1:30 min left, and the BS section with 30 mins left (of course I use this time to go back and correct stupid mistakes which didn't seem to work too well with PS 😛 ). Hopefully this will give me a good buffer on test day when my nerves get the better of me.

I took AAMC 3 and 4....are the sciences on the real thing that easy?...i mean my scores are around the same as kaplan tests b/c of a tougher curve. Is this representative of the real exam?

I agreee with CBT3 being unrealistically easy. I took it on Friday night and scored a 35, with my previous scores being 20, 23, 25 and 30 on kaplan diag, fl1, fl2 and fl3 respectively.

I'm doing the same thing! I took AAMC 6 or 8 (can't remember which) and I got a 12 on PS, having missed only 6 questions. 3 of the ones I missed were due to miscalculations! I was feeling pretty good about my scores when I was taking the Kaplan FLs because I was consistently scoring in the high 30s, but I'm freaking out now b/c I'm scoring in the low 30s on the AAMC tests because of that wicked curve. Did this happen to anyone else (high scores on Kaplan, lower on AAMC)? I've heard from some people that the Kaplan scores better predicted their real score... I hope that's true!

Kaplan tests have extremely inflated curves for higher scores from what I have seen. They are far more forgiving than AAMC tests. When do you take the test? If you're scoring a 12 in a section, you're 1-2 questions away from a 13. It really seems to take a bit of luck to break a 12 just because the room for error gets so ridiculously small.

Test day is 5/31. I'm well aware of the inflated Kaplan curve, but I've also noticed their questions are more difficult. I miss almost the same number of questions on the Kaplan and the AAMC tests, even though AAMC's are easier. I'm just making stupid mistakes, like miscalculations and reading things wrong. I'm finishing with plenty of time to spare on the sciences (20-30 min), so I should definitely take that time to go over my answers. I tend not to do that because if I end up changing answers, I usually change a right one to a wrong one, but since I seem to be making so many careless mistakes, I think it would serve me well to go back over my answers.

SpartanBlueJay2: I have the same problem. I'm thinking that maybe using the extra time to only double-check calculation problems might be the best idea. Changing my answer on the conceptual problems doesn't necessarily make things better.

aamc 3 - 10P, 10V, 12B
aamc 4 - 11, 12, 13
aamc 5 - 13, 10, 11
aamc 6 - 11, 10, 10
aamc 7 - 13/13/12

aamc 8 - 14/11/12 (today)

I'm slightly concerned about verbal (although I haven't scored lower than 10 in 3 months). I still need to review 5 chapters of bio in 11 days, lol.

Hey All-

I'm taking the test May 16th. I have been taking Kaplan's full lengths and improving steadily, with my last few scores being 32, 34, and 36 (on FL 3, 4, and 5). I took the AAMC test 3 today and got a 31, which was really discouraging based on my previous results. Looking over the test it seems I made a lot of stupid mistakes, but the score seemed low for the relative difficulty (I read here it's supposed to be pretty easy, and I felt that way too). I answered a higher percent of questions correctly on AAMC3 than on any of my Kaplan tests... Is the curve just brutal on AAMC 3 since it's supposed to be so easy, or are the Kaplan tests just giving me false hopes? Please let me know your thoughts... this isn't what I needed 2 days before the exam!!!

Edited: One more thing! I want to take another test... should I buy an AAMC one, or do one of the Kaplan ones I haven't taken yet?

Kaplan diag: PS: 8, VR: 8, BS: 7, total 23
Kaplan FL1: PS: 10, VR: 11, BS: 10, total 31
Kaplan FL2: PS: 14, VR: 9, BS: 12, total 35
AAMC 3: PS: 13, VR: 10, BS: 11, total 34
AAMC 4: PS: 13, VR: 11, BS: 11, total 35
Kaplan FL3: PS 11, VR: 13, BS: 15, total 39
Today:
AAMC 5: PS: 13, VR: 11, BS: 13, total 37

Test date is May 25th.

Fluffhead: I'd suggest shelling out the $35 and buying AAMC 9 or 10. I've heard they're closer to the real thing. And wouldn't you rather have the last test you took to be by the people that actually write the MCAT than a test-prep company? Just my two cents.

Thanks Phoenix... I actually realized we have access to the AAMC tests through Kaplan after posting yesterday. I feel stupid.

Anyway, I took AAMC8 and got a 38 (12PS, 13VR, 13BS). I really don't know what to think at this point, but I'm just going to relax today and hope tomorrow goes well. Best of luck to everyone else testing tomorrow!!!

MCAT: May 25th

TPR practice exams (taken untimed from test book, not the classroom materials)
1. 28 (9P,10V,9B)
2. 30 (9P,11V,10B)

More recently:
AAMC 3 (5/10) 11P, 12V, 9B
AAMC 9 (5/15) 11P, 13V, 12B ----36, finally reached my target! 👍

MCAT: May 25

Kap Diag: 21
FL 1: 31
FL 2: 29
FL 3: 30
FL 4: 32
CBT 9: 33

I like the trend, but I'm hoping to do a bit better

What are the chances of me getting a 25 or lower on the actual MCAT with these practice scores? Are they actually indicative on an actual score? I don't want to get my hopes up...

Took a TPR 4140 today which is infamous for its difficulty versus the other diags. I've realized that I really need to review some biology. Physics was especially difficult this time around. VR felt easier than usual.

11-10-12 (PS-VR-BS) 33

I guess ill write mine down. STarted studying about 3 weeks ago

Kaplan Test taht the school offered(not sure what test)

PS: 8 VR:13 BS:9
Examkrackers 1: PS: 9 VR: 10 BS: 9
AAMC 3R: PS: 9 VR: 11 BS: 10
GS 1: PS: 10 VR: 11 BS: 11

I also Have the Gold Standard tests, does anyone know how difficult they are compared to the read deal, and whether or not they are a decent indicator of actual test day performance?

aamc 3 - 10P, 10V, 12B (32)
aamc 4 - 11, 12, 13 (36)
aamc 5 - 13, 10, 11 (34)
aamc 6 - 11, 10, 10 (31)
aamc 7 - 13/13/12 (38)
aamc 8 - 14/11/12 (37)

aamc 10 - 11/11/11 (33) (today)

How would you rate the difficulty of aamc 10? I think the curves for the two science sections are a bit strict... and the sinkhole question robbed me of a 12 in verbal, lol.

Hopefully aamc 9 goes better.

CBT #3: PS: 9 VB: 10 BS: 8 Total: 28

I know CBT#3 is supposed to be ridiculously easy so I'm essentially starting out at about whatever Kaplan/GS diagnostic say.

Kaplan diagnostic: PS: 7 VB: 10 BS: 9 Total: 26
Gold Standard:
GS1: PS: 7 VB: 10 BS:?!

Today:

CBT#8: PS: 12 VR: 10 BS: 11 - 33

Things are looking on the up & up for PS & BS (alhamdullilah!!) & a little bit more review should raise them both a couple of more points - but I know VR is going to screw me & I don't know how to improve it.

My little sister took VR with me today & she scored an 11 with the HUGE handicap of having to read what I read & not being able to scan stuff she wanted to see when she wanted to see it.

I don't know whether to hate her or to hate her. 😀😀

KFL2-31 9/10/12
AAMC 6 - 28 10/7/11

Man I hope my verbal score goes back up!! I was having an "off" day anyways, but I really need to practice the verbal before 5/31.

Anyone in the same boat? Sciences high but no go on verbal?

Hehe... I'm in your boat now HristosKaran 🙂. No ideas on how to get better either & my GPA is so shockingly low that I can't really afford a 10 on VR 🙁.

I'm going to try glancing @ the questions first before reading the passage next time around. Here's hoping things get better for the both of us !! 🙂

Haha, I was actually going to try the same thing..I vaguely tried it on a passage and realized that even trying to comprehend all the questions wastes about a minute, and only sorta helps for the questions which contain a quotation. Anyways let me know how it goes!

Took my last CBT before my test this Friday. I felt the bio was much easier than CBT 9 while the PS presented a bit more difficulty. I won't comment on Verbal as usual. I made too many stupid mistakes in PS, but it really doesn't matter now because the only score that counts is on test day. I definitely need to review some earlier biology subjects, but other than that, I'm set to go.

Without further adieu:

TPR 4110: 7-7-11 (25)
TPR 4120: 10-5-11 (26)
AAMC 6: 11-10-10 (31)
TPR 4130: 12-9-11 (32)
AAMC 7: 12-10-12 (34)
TPR 4150: 13-9-13 (35)
AAMC 8: 12-10-13 (35)
AAMC 9: 13-11-13 (37)
TPR 4140: 12-10-11 (33)
AAMC 10: 12-10-14 36

Took my first ever practice MCAT today in preparation for the August 14th date

TPR 4110 - 7(PS) - 13(BS) - 11 (VS) = 31

I looked over the score report for PS and most of the stuff I missed was physics, which is comforting because I'm taking physics this summer, so I haven't really learned any of it yet.

I've got my MCAT on May 25th (this is my second time taking it)
August 2006: 10/9/10 (PS/VR/BS)

Then I didn't study anything for MCAT, knowing that I have the test on May 25th, 2007...You know, it's called "I've got school and a part-time job."

Then I started studying by doing AAMC3 on May 5th, 2007. I haven't really studied for real until last week because I am working full-time in a lab for this summer...My supervisor was cool with me taking a week off to study for my MCAT 😀

AAMC3 on May 5th, 2007: 10/7/9 (25)
AAMC4 on May 17th, 2007: 11/9/10 (30)
AAMC8 on May 19th, 2007: 10/11/11 (32)

I almost yelled out loud in the school library cuz I was so happy with me scoring above 10 in verbal and bio!!!!! (since english is not my first language)

I'm SURE no one cares about this but me, but it makes me feel better about myself... lol

August 2006 MCAT: 29Q (7-VR, 11, 11). I was averaging 31-32 on practice tests.

VR / PS / BS
AAMC CBT-3: 10 / 12 / 10 = 32
AAMC CBT-5: 10 / 12 / 13 = 35
AAMC CBT-6: 11 / 12 / 11 = 34
AAMC CBT-7: 12 / 10 / 14 = 36... YAY
AAMC CBT-8: 09 / 14 / 12 = 35... Just one measly point away from a 10 VR
AAMC CBT-9: 11 / 12 / 13 = 36
AAMC CBT-10: 10 / 11 / 13 = 34... Would've had a 12 PS if it wasn't for a very careless error.

Averaging 35 on the more recent exams (CBT 7-10) which are supposed to be more reflective of the actual test... Hoping for a 35, but will be content with a 32+

LOL yeah self-assurance feeds on itself 🙂
good luck with your MCAT 😀

Has everyone been consistent across sections on the practice tests?

AAMC 3 - PS 13 VR 12 BS 12 (37)
AAMC 4 - PS 13 VR 13 BS 15 (41)
AAMC 5 - PS 11 VR 15 BS 13 (39)
AAMC 6 - PS 14 VR 14 BS 14 (42)
AAMC 10 - PS 13 VR 11 BS 15 (39)

I don't like the volatility across sections...😕

Took another verbal (after PS) - I've scored 10 on every verbal section I've tried (& there hasn't been improvement). I tried just reading the passage & doing the questions initially & that was a 10. I tried methods where I'm glancing @ the questions before starting the test - but that just ate into time that I didn't have to spare, didn't raise my score from a 10 & left me with 5min on the last passage (OMG - that is STRESSFUL!!).

For anyone who's interested, this post by Matt seems to have a really good & thorough verbal strategy. I'm going to try it out & I'll let you guys know if it helps me out any 🙂.

ok just took 2 FL so far. MCAT date 31st of May. I am done reviewing the material and now take 1 FL/day.

april 20th AAMC 3R----> PS:7/VR:8/BS:8 (23)
may 20th AAMC 6R----> 9/7🙁 /10 (26) (i hate being the stupid ESL😳 )

another one i am taking in 20 minutes...will post when i get the score.

I dropped from 10-11-11 (AAMC 8 on May 19th) to 10-9-9 (AAMC 9 on May 22nd). And my real thing is on May 25th.......this is just great...I feel like crying now 🙁

Unless you've been fluctuating a lot, I would guess that your score drop is a bit of a fluke.

Honestly, why are you taking CBTs a few days before your actual test? Stressing yourself out will kill your score more than anything else.

If you haven't finished reviewing, that's another problem in its own.

Just relax.

Yeah, I am trying not to freak out. Hopefully I can focus better in the testing center than I do at the school library computer where people make phone calls every 5 minutes and where they don't have cubicles to block out my sight to glimpse at cute guys around. 😀

Oh, you're taking it at a public library? Psh, you'll be fine then. I could never get a 10 on verbal at a public library because people kept talking and that destroys your concentration like no other.

haha, thanks for the reassurance 🙂 best of luck to both of us on this Friday!

5/22/07 AAMC #8R 13/10/9 T:32

First time I broke 30 on an AAMC exam. Taking the real test 5/31. I'm doing a VR set of 7 every day i'm not taking a practice exam and really hope it helps because I cannot afford to get less than a 9 on it. I just want above a 30!!

Real thing in 8 days 😱! My AAMC practice scores are still not as high as my Kaplan ones, but at least they're on the way up. Also, considering where I started with my diag. verbal score, I'm quite content with my consistent 10s-11s (although I'd be absolutely thrilled with a 12).

Kaplan Diag.: 25 (9P, 6V, 10B)
Kaplan FL1: 32 (11P, 9V, 12B)
Kaplan FL2: 37 (13P, 10V, 14B)
Kaplan FL3: 37 (13P, 11V, 13B)
Kaplan FL4: 36 (13P, 10V, 13B)
Kaplan FL5: 38 (13P, 10V, 15B)
AAMC 5: 34 (12P, 11V, 11B)
AAMC 6: 33 (11P, 10V, 12B)
AAMC 7: 35 (11P, 11V, 13B)

A couple more practice tests between now and Monday, then a little vegging out before the big day next Thursday. I cannot wait for this thing to be over!

Taking the real thing in 2 days 😱 luckily my scores have gotten pretty stable. Hope I can match these on the real test:

AAMC 8 (5/19): 12 P 13 V 11 B, 36
AAMC 10(5/23): 12 P 13 V 11 B, 36

I just took AAMC 5's VR section for practice, and all I can say is, what the hell? I found AAMC 10 to be much, much easier. The answer explanations don't make any sense to me for the Picasso passage. I felt okay on it while doing the test (the first passage I actually thought was the hardest, but I ended up getting them all right), and when I go back I ended up missing 5 out of the 7 questions. I never straight up bomb a passage this bad so I'm figuring I just completely missed the point of the passage.

I also finished with 4 minutes to spare so I think I went way too fast.

Anyways, I oddly enough still got a 10, but I was cutting it close to a 9 (30/40). Definitely don't want to miss that many on test day. I need to get at least a 32/40 to guarantee that 10.

Anyone else think that passage had some weird answers? Maybe I just suck at interpreting passages about art.

Oh well, back to watching movies!

Taking it Thrusday 5/31. I don't have my sectional scores for 5/12-5/19. I started studying after taking AAMC 3 on 5/12, and my scores immediately took a hit 😕.

I tutor general chem (as well as other subjects), so I'm probably understating my preparation as far as PS goes.

All of these are the AAMC CBTs:

5/12 : 3 - 38
5/14 : 4 - 36
5/19 : 5 - 35
5/22 : 6 - 39 14 13 12
5/23 : 7 - 39 15 11 13
5/25 : 8 - 37 12 12 13 --> (the PS was ridiculous), so was a lot of the VR

CBT 3 - 28 - 10 7 11 (March 1)
CBT 4 - 33 - 13 11 9 (May 10)
CBT 5 - 35 - 12 11 12 (May 27-28) note, I did not take this in one sitting, I took Verbal first, then the next day I took physical with bio right after
CBT 6 - 38 - 14 11 13 (May 17)

I hit the proverbial "burn out" wall yesterday... I scored a 33 on a Kaplan FL, which is a good 4-5 points lower than my usual Kaplan score. That huge point drop was entirely in PS. I guess I'm done studying... must find a way to alleviate burnout by Thursday!

ah, it might be the exam you took. I noticed that even when I was scoring the same percent correct in all sections (just about), my score was dropping significantly. Could be burnout but don't let it discourage you much...when I noticed my Kaplan scores dipping I realized it was time to start doing my AAMC exams.

It wasn't a curve issue, I definitely had a huge %age drop in PS... usually I'm in the 70-85% range on Kaplan and 80-95% on AAMC, and on the FL I took yesterday my % was 56 😱! Either I'm burned out or I got used to the easier AAMC PS.

Good call, that happened to me too after I started taking the AAMC tests...I got used to the slower pace, less stress, shorter passaged PS. I think Kaplan's PS is kinda absurd...they might contend that making it harder pushes us more but in reality, it misguides us and overworks in a bad way.

Initially I would have agreed with you on this, but I've been hearing from people who have taken the real thing recently that the PS looks more like Kaplan's than the past AAMCs. Hence why I'm a bit worried about the recent PS score plummet. Calculations kill me! However, on a positive note, at least I didn't let my bad feeling about PS affect the other sections.

I've also heard the same but due to the confidentiality of the whole thing, I can't make a good judgement call on it. I heard it's more like Kaplan in the sense that you need to apply what's in the passages...and the calculations are a little rougher...to be honest, I see that as closer to AAMC than to Kaplan so it's not getting to me much. For me, right now, avoiding Kaplan is best because I need to maintain the high scores to keep up my confidence.
