hey y'all - and it seems as though there are not many of us left checking this thread... I am sitting in the colonial inn accross the street from mayo clinic, starting to worry far to much about the interview tomoro. I must say that everything people have said about this place is right... wow... gorgeous. Anyhow I promise I am not getting paid or anything for this plug, I am just trying to be helpful (when i arrived in minneapolis I had no idea how to get to rochester, or where to stay)
once in the airport, head towards baggage claim/ground transportation. once you get near the end of the way, instead of a unified 'go this way to ground transport' sign, you hit a place where you must go straight for buses or right for vans (you will see an information booth directly in front of you at this point). Hang a right, go up the escalators, and you should see the 'Rochester Direct' sign - it will cost you 49 round trip or 27 one way, and it departs about every hour or hour and a half.
in rochester there are a bunch of hotels, (i borrowed the phone book from the guy at the shuttle desk to find some numbers), at each place i said "i am interviewing at mayo, i heard from someone you have a good interviewee rate, what is the best price i can get for 1 person tonight." Days inn was 59, another place was 35, and colonial (507-289-3363 mods if i am not allowed to post this please tell me i will delete immediately) was 30. I lucked out and it turn out the colonial is litteraly accross the road from mayo (but i couldnt know that from the phone book). Honestly it is a little old and run down, but all i cared about was finding a cheap place to sleep, and the people here are very nice, so it worked out.
yeah so thats that - i am bored and cant sleep because of the time zone change, but i am gonna go give it a shot
ps - someone told me by pm to eat at Newts if i liked burgers, and wow, I ate there, best burger, litterally, that i think i have ever had.
