Thanks jong & jack! Apparently my subconscious was in hyperdrive again last night. This time I had a dream that today I went for a summer picnic in a forest preserve with friends and family (freakish how the weather was so nice when it's 5 degrees here). At about 12:30pm I looked at my phone, saw no one had called, and felt incredibly sad, knowing that I hadn't gotten the call. Then I realized that my phone was frozen, and when I restarted it, I saw that I had one missed call from Jane! I screamed and ran around hugging my family telling them that I got in to Mayo and would be going there for medical school. I was on cloud nine! Then, laughingly, I said I'd better call Jane to confirm. I called, and she said that it was too bad that I hadn't answered my phone when she called, and that they had since made the offer to someone else, and that there was nothing to do about it. I was crushed. Lovely dream. Am I the only one that has these crazy Mayo dreams?

Anyway, my Mayo confidence level is at about 5% today, but hey, I hope a bunch of SDNers get the amazing news today! :luck::luck::luck:

In the past it's been around 11:30am-12pm. But those calls were by Jane. Since Jane's out of town this week, who knows if the calls will go out at the same time as they have in the past? But I'll be trying not to stare at my phone around that time today.... Good luck!

Lacking patience I called. Marcy was being very mysterious and pretty much couldn't tell me anything. She looked my file up which said pretty much what I already know (that I've been ranked). And she said she didn't know when the next acceptances were being given out...

Well, from what Jane told me in the past, she never knows when acceptances are going to being given out until the dean hands her a group to call. So I was a little surprised that Marcy told someone more acceptances would go out today specifically, unless, of course, she had been told by a dean that they would. So, when you called, she might not have received "the list" yet, or they may simply not have gotten to making their decisions yet. I was just thinking how there's no guarantee that calls will be made today. Could be tomorrow, or later in the week. But odds are, some calls will go out soon. I really hope they make them today though, so that I can be less anxious the rest of the week.

But since Marcy's not making the decisions, it's really not up to her. Perhaps she had been told decisions would probably go out today. And maybe they changed their mind or aren't ready yet.

yeah, i'm definitely suspecting that mayo will be calling this week.

tomorrow is my birthday and all i've asked for is a mayo acceptance:hardy:
 
i hope we both get one this week. i'm from milwaukee so we could meet halfway and celebrate!

She definitely told me acceptances were going out today😕.... I immediately wrote it down so I wouldn't later think I imagined it. I don't know but I'm dying over here!!!!:scared:

Well.......any chance you feel like calling her to confirm since you can remind her what she said to you last week? Perhaps she'll say that they won't be going out today after all and we can all relax a little. Or, perhaps calling won't tell us a thing. Hrm. Your call, so to speak.

Otherwise I'm going to keep looking at my phone until around 2-3pm today, and then start all over again tomorrow around 11am. Heh.

Well, I called and this time I spoke with Julie (Marcy's in a meeting). Julie basically knew nothing🙁. She wasn't sure if Marcy had already made calls today or if calls were going to be made only by Jane (when she comes back next week) All she could tell me was that adcom had more acceptances to make ..... So back to square one.

We'll, sorry to get everyone 'roused. As for me, I am done for the day.😕

Thanks for calling back, fatmackdaddy! I was just looking again at when acceptances have gone out in the past, and the past three calls days were made on Thursdays and Wednesdays. So, I'm betting it will be later this week. While they could be waiting for Jane to get back, I'm going to assume that's probably not the case since Marcy knew last week when she told you acceptances would be going out today that Jane wouldn't be back to make them. So, I'm going to go with anticipating calls to go out this Wednesday or Thursday. But hey, that's just my guesstimate. Talk about over-analysis!

I have no idea. But if I had to guess, I'd say that Marcy was probably told by a dean that more acceptance decisions would be made on Tuesday, so that's what she told fatmackdaddy. However, what the dean probably meant, was that decisions would be made today/tonight, but that the information wouldn't be conveyed to Marcy for calls until Wednesday. Again, this is all just my best guess. Who knows when the decisions are made? Just seems like in the past the deans made decisions, and then the next morning gave the info to Jane so she could make the calls.

I'm just anxious to see how many spots are going to be left once they roll around to the last group.

I hear ya. All I can say is that what will be, will be, although that's not much consolation. Just try to keep in mind that about 10-15 get in off the wait list too. That will make the number left after the next round of acceptances look a lot better. :luck:

that's a surprisingly high number....just enough to keep you stressing if you make it on the WL

Well, when I spoke to Jane last month, she definitely said that 15 got off the waitlist last year. And I'm pretty sure she'd also said that in past years it's usually been around 10-15. Yeah, higher than I thought too. But I'm sure there are quite a few Mayo acceptees that get full rides or amazing opportunities at other top schools, and perhaps end up picking those schools for geographical or other reasons. I had wondered why I'd read elsewhere that Mayo has a waitlist around 60-80 people (I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading that in last year's thread), but I guess if they anticipate accepting 15 more people, and want to have a diverse group to pick from.... Torturous for waitlistees, though.
 
so no word today? dang... mayo acceptances are seriously like golden tickets to the chocolate factory.

Speaking of which, it really cracked me up that one school I know sends acceptance letters printed on gold paper. Talk about unwrapping a med school Wonka bar! 😀

Holy Cow!! I don't check in for 1 day and the posts are going crazy. I wished some of us SDNers would have got a call today...Is everyone thinking this week though? Good luck:luck:!
 
I'm glad to see so many people excited about coming to Mayo. I'm one of the fourth year students at Mayo and it has definetly been a great place to train these past four years. It has been a great clinical experience and it has been a privilege to work with some great physicians who are leaders in their field.

Also for those that have been accepted to Mayo and looking for housing options, I wanted to let you guys know that we are putting our condo up for sale. As far as anyone knows, no acceptances went out yesterday. Although technically, they certainly could have. Feel free to call and confirm if you're feeling up for it. Personally, I'm going to sit tight at least through tomorrow afternoon and see if any calls are made by then.

Hope I didn't give anyone a heart attack by posting now. We're close to the Mayo witching hour!

Congrats fatmackdaddy!!!! :hardy::hardy::hardy: And your turn around was amazing! You interviewed on 1/21 and were accepted on 2/20! I'm SO happy for you! :clap:

I'm not really expecting a call myself anymore, but hopefully more SDNers will get the call today! :luck:

EDIT: Btw, when were you ranked? Our theory is that applicants are only eligible to receive an acceptance once they have received their ranked email.
