Congrats!! You're obviously very excited 🙂 I'm hoping for an interview too but it's only been ~3 weeks since I've been complete...plus the fact that it's MAYO!

Congrats to all!! Very special accomplishment. 😀

Question: How do people feel about sending a pre-LOR update letter of sorts? I've done much more lately than my AMCAS indicates (verified early June).

Congrats, guys! That's GREAT! :hardy: Your excitement is quite infectious, copperfrog! I found out about my invite on the phone when I called Jane last year to check on my status too, and I remember how surreal and amazing that was. I think I was on cloud nine for a good two weeks if not more. 😀

flipz: Sounds like it's been almost four months since your primary, so if you have some developments to update, I think you should definitely go ahead and send it. Can't hurt, and can only help. :luck:

I called Marcy to ask about status, all she would tell me is that I was complete and that I should wait for email. Does that mean I'm rejected?

I was complete 8/19

Marcy told me they had processed an interview invite for me!!!!!!

😀😀😀 When I read your post, I said a little "Yay" out loud in the computer lab and now there are 20 sets of eyes on me. Congratulations!!

I hope you have a great interview (of course you will).

:luck::luck::luck:

Got my interview invite today!! I received the email saying they had received my letters on 8/19. Good luck everyone!!

congrats. I'm 8/19 too and I'm more worried each day

I was complete 8/7 and no word...im guessing rejection.

Don't panic just because it has been a while, someone above said they had been complete long past the four weeks, and it was 7-8 weeks for me. Hang in there!

Rejection...No biggie.

I had my LORs in on 8/8. I just emailed the admissions office to followup on my application, and was told that I should have gotten my rejection email two weeks ago. sad

Yes..email.

What does everyone think? Fly into Rochester or Minneapolis? Can you stay with students? And do you just get a taxi from the airport to the students place or do they pick you up?

Minneapolis, then take the shuttle. I was looking at airfare for the beginning of November and it was about 1/3 less to fly into Minneapolis.

Members of the Admissions Committee have reviewed your application to Mayo Medical School. We would like to invite you to come to Rochester, Minnesota for onsite interviews.

I AM DONATING MONEY TO SDN NOW IF I GET INTO MAYO THEN I WILL DO LIFETIME DONOR 🙂

after calling marcy earlier in the week I ALMOST withdrew, because she made it sound like I didn't get in. She said all final decisions are emailed out so I figured it was rejection and I just had to wait for it, but I was too lazy to call her again to withdraw. THANK GOD I didn't. I'm not religious but this is just WOW I'm so happy 🙂

Congrats! Did you get your notice today? and did you have to email them to get the notice?

The email was logged 1:47 AM Central time today. Until this week when I called Marcy, I ALWAYS stayed up until 2:30 AM before going to bed, yea, that's how much I wanna go to Mayo.... I wish I stayed up last night to wait for it, it would of been so exciting 🙂

I didn't email Mayo at all. I called Marcy earlier in the week to check on my status and ask if I was rejected because it had been so long, she told me all decisions will be given out via email.

Oh, and I now sport the bronze donor 🙂 Time to enlarge my avatar woot

Have you guys actually ever been to mayo??

I have now. It's photo-worthy. Very photoworthy. (But, as SDN appears to have established a few threads ago, you should NOT be taking pictures while on the tour).

HUGE congrats! :hardy::hardy::hardy: But I can't believe you were going to withdraw preemptively. Pshaw. You guys all just need to give this process time. No news does NOT = bad news, although I know how tempting it is to assume that. While closure is good, try not to close that door yourself.

Thanks 🙂

I can't wait to finally be able to meet Marcy and our own Phoenix in person, and see the Mayo Clinic !

I can't wait to meet you too! 😀

Yea. I guess the lesson is if you aren't rejected, just wait and hope for the best. I was complete 8/19 and got invite 10/4. 🙂

Do most people who interview at Mayo stay at the Kahler Grand Hotel then?
Does anyone know how far it is from the admissions office (I'm assuming that is where the interview day starts?)

Definitely, for those of you still waiting, don't give up if you haven't heard anything yet. I waited almost seven weeks after my application was confirmed complete before receiving my interview invite.

I believe that most interviewees stay with student hosts, but that's of course up to you. You could also stay at the Kahler Grand if you prefer, which is pretty cheap, and is extremely convenient. It's right near the med school (1 block?), and in the winter you can use the underground tunnels (the "subway") so you don't even have to go outside. Congrats on your invite!

I will be driving to Mayo (~4 hrs away) from Madison, WI, but I decided to check the airfare tickets out of curiousity. It costs $500 to fly from Madison to either Rochester or Minneapolis, I did not think it would cost that much. Is this normal for airfare nowadays? I haven't flown since last summer.

No, I think it's just those airports. I'm driving 8 hrs to avoid the 6-800 dollar plane ticket.

I doubt it will help, but you could also check out Amtrak. The nearest station is Winona, MN (45 minutes away), and I believe there's shuttle service to Rochester. For an example, the trip to Chicago on the train is 5 hours, and if you buy in advance it can be pretty cheap. Not sure where you're coming from exactly or if it'd be more convenient than driving, but it might be worth checking out if the times and locations matched up. As for Madison, that's a really easy drive. A straight shot on the highway.

We are well on our way to surpassing the 24 pages from Mayo 2008 🙂

^When do you interview, GloryField?

(Good luck, btw 🙂🙂)

I have no idea why I keep checking this thread... It is just every time I see a new post on the Mayo 2009 thread, I have to look...🙁

I know.. I think it's all those exclamation points in the title. They just kind of suck you in.

For me, it's the 4 letters prior to 2009 🙂

I think you may have something there. All the people who didn't apply to Mayo probably want to see what all the "!!!" is about. 😉

And that's why we have Phoenix 😀.

Yeah; Phoenix is awesome!!! 🙂

Aww, thanks, guys. You all are too!

And while I imagine it's pretty obvious, schedule permitting, I'm happy to do my best to meet up with any SDNers who come to Mayo to interview. Just drop me a PM. At the very least, I can try to be one of the students that takes the interviewee group to lunch that day. Or we could meet up for coffee and you could pick my brain of everything Mayo. These next six weeks are happily crazy (anatomy/radiology/embryology), but I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you!

To those of you reading this and still waiting for news, good luck and hang tight. May your inbox overflow with many invites. :luck:

Phoenix was great when I went up to interview at Mayo. Pretty much everyone is great when you go up to visit. Question though:

If people are waitlisted on Oct 15, are they notified by phone or just email? I know that they call if you get in, but I wasn't sure about waitlisting.

I might be completely wrong about this, but it looks like from last year that everyone is "ranked" and a certain number are accepted through the year, then the waitlists and rejections are handed out in the spring?

I'm not entirely sure but I can tell you that I had a friend last year who interviewed in January, was ranked a month later, and was put on hold a week after that (so end of February). He wasn't rejected until March, though. So it's not really clear from his scenario, I guess.

So I actually have no answer to the question, but yeah, it would be interesting to know, too, if Phoenix happens to know...

EDIT: Centrion, when were you ranked? (or have you been ranked yet?)

Well, the only way to get the real story would be to call Marcy. All I can tell you is what I recall from last year, and they may or may not do the same thing this year.

I believe that last year it worked like this: First, you had to have been discussed at a committee meeting post-interview to be eligible for an acceptance (basically, "ranked"). Depending on how backed up they are at the time you interview, you could be ranked anywhere from a week or even over a month after your interview (I think they sent out an email once you had been ranked, but I could be wrong (and they might not have sent out any such emails for the interviewees who interviewed prior to the first acceptances going out)). Then, the next time they select people to accept (which did not necessarily coincide with committee meetings to rank interviewees), and you are not selected, they send out a "hold" email. It's definitely not the same as a waitlist, since you could be accepted at any time they decide to send out more acceptances. I certainly know people who interviewed in September, didn't get in with the first wave in October, but got in in November or December. Basically, you're just as eligible each time they decide to offer more acceptances, so I wouldn't view it as a waitlist.

The waitlist is different. After they've filled the class (usually as of 3/15), they will create an alternate list in mid-March. As people decline their spots in the class they will extend acceptances to alternates. Waitlist (or rather, alternate list) movement can continue as late as mid-June, or theoretically, up until classes start around the third week of July.

Hope the above is not too convoluted. Regardless, take it with a HUGE grain of salt since I have no idea what they're doing this year.

[To confirm what Phoenix said, there IS a 'ranked' e-mail that goes out after the interview, or at least there is this year 😛].
