I could be wrong, but my impression is that rankings are made at committee meetings, but not necessarily appointments. Sorry man. Tough luck.
I say luck because 98.5% of people end up in the same boat as you after applying to Mayo, and 98.4% of them - yourself included - could have made a fine student there.

I made it to the LOR stage, yay.

Two questions:

1) Is this next screen based heavily on the quality of my letters, or is it again based on the overall package?

2) Does anyone know the percentage of applicants that make it to this stage that get invited to interview? It seems like the pre-LOR cuts is one of the harshest, though I have very little information about this next cut.

Mayo seems very, very sweet though. Rarely do you see people so pumped and excited about a school.

Hey everybody. Thought I would answer a few questions I've seen on here. The committee meets every Thursday from 4-6pm. Around the holidays, there are many canceled meetings and members missing for travel and things get a little back logged. Do not fret if you are not ranked right away as this means nothing about you or your standing. Remember, if you got an interview at Mayo, you are very likely to get accepted to some school. Also, do not worry too much about being put on hold or not getting in right away. If you are not rejected, you are still in the running and people get in after being on hold every year. There is someone if my class who was accepted 3 weeks before school started. There are certain times when admissions are granted, and these times have no relation to the ranking time (other than the fact that you can only be admitted after you are ranked). Best of luck to everyone and hang in there.

Hey! What are you doing asking Qs on the Mayo thread - you're supposed to be going to UCLA with me! LOL, just messing around.

All other Mayo obsessed individuals: I have cancelled my interview, and so a new invite will go out in my place, hopefully that helps somebody. There's no way im flying to Minnesota and taking shuttles and stuff in the freezing cold.

So, I finished sending applications (including secondaries and LORs) to 11 different school by the end of September, Mayo being my long shot.

I had been waiting to hear something from any school, 6 of which are in state (FL). I called all the schools (but Mayo... I mean, I probably wasn't being realistic) to get updates and there was still no news other than "Your application is being reviewed."

But the other morning I arose to a Mayo Interview invite. I slapped myself a few times to make sure I was actually awake, cried like a girl on the last day of camp, and then set up my interview. I can't believe this. With a 30R (9PS, 11VR, 10BS) and a 3.7 I'm still pretty shocked and humbled that I have this opportunity. I know I don't deserve it, as many of you are far more qualified than I am.

Regardless, I'm super excited. I sent a PM to "Phoenix." but if any others have pertinent Mayo information, I'd love to wallow in your proverbial wellspring of knowledge.

I still find it ironic that my long shot school has been the first and only school to offer me an interview.

I lived in warm/hot weather until I was 11 and I hated it

Congratulations! And you do deserve it. Mayo is very different then other medical schools since they are not as hung up about numbers. They saw something that they liked in your application and that's what matters. Best of luck on your interview!

Congrats! Enjoy the interview day, it will be laid back and was the most enjoyable one I had.

Mayo looks for specific things, and you have something they liked! I was accepted and I do not have Harvard numbers.

I just finished my last final exam! Now I get to look forward to possibly my first acceptance! Mayo, WashU, or MCW, hopefully it will be the one that I interviewed first at 🙂
 
Just set up my interview for Jan 16th 😍 It was the first available day and I check every day to see if there is somehow an earlier opening haha, I cannot wait!!!!!!!

hey everyone! i had my interview this past monday. 😀

everything was amazing, especially hearing the students' own experiences and what they have done for their selectives.

as for the weather, it was pretty awful. 👎 it was -6 degrees the morning of the interview and was even colder the next day. it has not gotten that cold where i live (yet).

I checked my email maybe an hour after and there was a rank email! Only logical conclusion, post what you want and it will happen.

lol I know what you mean.

I went on October 6th when it was a "chilly" 40 degrees. I mentioned how cold it was (I go to UCLA) and the interviewer chuckled at me. Whoops.

i live in MI so 40 isn't too bad, lol. i was in MN for the entire weekend, and the sub-zero temps were a bit of a surprise because it had been ~30 two days before.

It probably will be next week I'm guessing. Interview days are busy for Marcy.
 
So are appointments going out tomorrow morning?
 
If you've been ranked do you usually hear about waitlist/acceptances when they go out next or can it be a long wait?
 
if you are ranked, the next time decisions go out, you get either a hold or an appointment (AKA acceptance), then in march the hold can turn into a waitlist or rejection or an appointment
 
Anyone know if any appointments are going out later today?
 
I spoke with Marcy a bit earlier today. She said 16 have gone out, and more will before Christmas. :xf::luck:

I would imagine they would be going out tomorrow just because I don't think their office will be open on Christmas Eve. Good luck to everyone that is eligible....wish I was....that would be the greatest christmas present ever!

I just heard that eight calls offering spots in the class were made this morning, and two of the calls went to people already on the hold list. Hang tight, guys. :luck:

I applied to Mayo for the PhD program in Clinical and Translational Science. Could anybody tell me anything about it, as far as what the program is like, what the application success rate is, and such? A post here, or a PM would be excellent. Thanks!
