in the email, do they tell you u are ranked, or do they give you your ranking?
 
Nope, no ranking. Not even if you call. Anyway, I believe that it's just an internal ranking, so don't think of it as a ranking system like other schools have, where they know you're in the top third, etc. Given Mayo's desire to make up a small but diverse class, I recall them saying that it's not a pure numbers-ranking system. I.e., even if someone has been assigned a higher number than you, you may get an acceptance first based on other factors. And to the best of my knowledge (which may be completely off), the ranking is more like everyone getting assigned a number somewhere between 1 and 5. So don't sweat it.

How long did it take everyone to get a "complete" email after sending in LOR's per their request? I sent mine in over 2, maybe even 3 or 4 weeks ago, and still no word even confirming that they got them.
 
sent 8/6, complete 8/19

It might be longer now due to higher volumes of applicants. Check the exact day that you sent them the letters. Often times it would feel like 4 weeks, but turns out it was only 2.
 
i got my complete e-mail on 9/15 and i sent them on 8/7.. i almost resent them cuz i thought it was lost...
 
Do you know how many people they interview per day?
 
somewhere between 4 to 12 or so.

I just recently received an invitation to interview and was wondering how many people are typically interviewed/and how many are offered acceptances? Also, there seems to be a lot of interest surrounding Mayo on this forum. Can somebody explain the greatest strengths of this program? (maybe a current student).
 
interview # is typically 4-12, I'm not sure about acceptance.

For the strengths, look up a few pages for Phoenix's posts, she's a M1 at Mayo right now.

I believe he's asking how many are accepted per interview day, but I suppose you could estimate it into (42/295) * 8
assuming 8 is avg interview size.

however, the 42 is matriculants, i'm not sure how many mayo accepted

Hey MJ is King, congrats on the interview and welcome to the forum! US News and World Report says:

242 interviewed, 50 were accepted, 42 enrolled for Fall 2007.

Mayo is a pretty unique program with a lot of strengths, most of them centering around the unlimited opportunities available for students. What its "greatest" strength is for you personally probably depends on what you're looking for, so I'd suggest reading around the forums and the Mayo website a bit. Good luck!
 
Thanks for all the info guys, I appreciate it. Those numbers are pretty crazy, 42 of 50 people who are accepted matriculate? That's insane! 80%+ matriculation rate, wow. I'm pretty sure the very best schools (by rank) such as Harvard, JHU, UCSF etc are around 50/60 percent.

I've done a lot of research on Mayo it seems amazzzzzing. Never been to Minnesota, but hey there's a first time for everything.

Not quite. 42 is the class size. Say they accept 50 people and waitlist 25 people. If 29 of those 50 accepted decide to matriculate elsewhere, and 21 people actually matriculate, then Mayo can pull 21 off their waitlist. Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

From my recollection, they interview about 300 and initially accept 42 MD applicants (there are 50 in the class if you count the 2 OMS and 6 MD/PhD students, but they have separate application processes so they don't count for this discussion). In previous years about 10-15 more got in off the waitlist. However, last year I believe about 21 did. Supposedly the applicant pool was stellar last year and they anticipated more turn over. I think they waitlisted 100 applicants in mid-March. Also, last year they increased the MD class size by 8 spots.

Sweet, thanks for the info. Lets hope that Mayo accepts a stellar class this year too, so that I can have a chance if waitlisted 🙂

Yup, 42 this year too (at least from what I've heard). Also, I chatted with Marcy today and she said that about 120 interview invites have gone out so far. Given that they usually give out around 300, there are still a lot more to go! :luck:

Can you tell us when they have gone out!? I've been reviewed and I'm anxiously playing the waiting game hoping to get the call. My phone just rang and it was my mother, I got so excited but when then I realized it was only her. I want to hear Marcy on the other line!

I got about 30min of sleep last night because I was so anxious to hopefully hear something back today!! It's already past 5pm though... Anyone with any luck today or are we all going to have to anxiously await/pray for a phone call for one more day? 🙁

Well, last year it looks like the first acceptance was 10/22...so maybe there's still a tiny bit of hope. And if they're actually accepting 5-7 people (and they've only interviewed maybe 20-40) surely one of us has heard something 😕😕😕

So I interviewed and got the whole ranking e-mail dealie yesterday. Today, when I was away from my phone, Marcy called and left a voicemail saying to call her back for an update on my file...

I didn't get the message until now and the office is closed!!!

if someone is posting something that just doesn't sound right, everything else disagrees with what you've heard... that info is probably inaccurate.

I could be wrong, but I believe that no one who has received an interview is rejected or placed on a waitlist until about mid-March. Until then, everyone who has been interviewed and reviewed, but not yet accepted, remains in the running with the same chance of being offered an acceptance in the next round.

Alas, other than writing a letter of update, interest or intent (if that's where your heart is), there's really nothing you can do but cross all fingers and toes and wait.
 
I know that some acceptances went out today. My summer roommate got one... with quite a nice scholarship as well!
