Does mayo offer a huge financial aid package to everyone? I'm not too familiar with this school, but that's what I heard.

Has anyone called recently, or does anyone know if they are actually meeting february 1st (and Ashanti was accepted early from one of their ranking meetings), or did appointments get made and called yesterday?

To answer your questions, Mayo offers around 40% of its class full rides, another 30% 3/4 scholarships, and another 30% half scholarships... so at worst, if your out of state, your paying 12 grand, worse case scenario if your instate (florida, Arizona, minnesota) you pay 6 grand.

so I just found out Mayo did indeed offer six acceptances today (meaning they've given out 23 so far)..........
i don't wanna be put on hold!!!!.....disappointing..more waiting i guess....

and fyi, at the appointment meetings, they do go over everything in your file again (amcas, interviews, updates etc...).

Thank you! I'm totally still floating! I'm not sure why they would tell you Feb 1st, perhaps they're having more meetings, I know Jane mentioned this possibility when I had my interview.

As if getting into Mayo was not enough, I was also offered a full ride academic scholarship! It's totally unreal, g'luck to everyone still waiting!

Congrats Ashanti!!! I believe I interviewed the same week in January, were you sent the email that you had been ranked, or did they just accept you?

hello all, a little late in the game to this whole sdn thing, but just thought I would add my nervous self to the mix... phone interview in late December, on site interview coming up March 13th... so hopefully the class wont be filled by March 15th like somone said earlier... is there still hope? Mayo is my first and only interview so far, I havent even heard from 8 other schools... maybe I should have turned the apps in a little earlier... oh well, 'que sera, sera'

I interviewed January 5th. I was scheduled to interview in February, but a spot opened and I jumped on it.

They assign you a ranking, but they don't tell you what it is. If you are not appointed during the next adcom appointment meeting, you get an email telling you you've been put on hold. People on hold have a chance to get appointed at each subsequent meeting.

Nope, much more ambiguous:

The Admissions Committee recently reviewed and discussed your application. Your committee rank has been determined and will be considered when appointments are made to the class entering in 2006. We will continue to update you with any activity taken on your application.

You have no idea if you're #1 or #100 on the list. Just wait and see...

I'm a bit confused -- does Mayo rank everybody they interviewed on the same day (or same week, or month, etc) at the same time? If Tom and Jane interview on the same day, would they ever rank Tom and not Jane?

Also, how often do they rank?

I too heard decisions are made by March 15.

Does anyone know if the class is filled (42 acceptances offered) by March 15?

However, if students interview late Feb/Early Mar, does that mean we are applying for a spot off the waitlist? Or will students that interview at that time only receive one review by the committe, assuming they meet once a week as other posts have said?

I am so excited. all this talk of the class being filled by march 15th had me very worried with my interview being march 13th and all... anyway I just got an email today that my interview has been moved up to Feb. 16th! although this is going to cost me a 1100 dollar plane ticket I think it is worth it... yay

you know what's funny,your interview was moved to the 16th because i withdrew from there, it was confirmed this morning. I cannot afford to be flying around the country anymore for interviews. I hope you get in anyways and i am glad they gave my interview slot to someone else that seems crazy a bout them. good luck and make me proud.

Same here, I assume we are on hold and they just have not gotten around to emailing us... oh well at least we'll know by march 15th,
its so hard to gauge chances of gettin in there because it seems like everyones interview went really really well....

On that note, are there any current mayo medical students that know something about the interview points scale. I know they rate you in 8 categories on a scale from 1 to 5. Does anyone what kind of score you need to have (3,4, 4.5, 4.6 etc...?) to be competitive?

I got the famous "hold" email. I interviewed 10/3, got the rank email 10/12, and got the hold email 12/16.

We'll see what happens on 3/15 but I'm not getting any hopes up. I'll just have to content myself with getting into my second choice school. 😀

Cindy said that they are about 40 people behind and that they review apps every thurs, she said they would review 20 this week, 20 next week and then get to mine/the ppl who interviewed this week... so there are still a few spots and hope for all... and she confirmed that the class would be full by March 15th... in case you were wondering how they score... all I know is that your interviewers give you a score and become your advocates on the committee, then they present your info and the whole committee secretly gives you a score and that determines your ranking. you might all know this already.... also I didnt realize that the committee and interviewers are both blind to your phone interview.. anyway now I join the waiting game...

Do you know if they were planning on offering acceptances the friday after you interviewed (so more acceptances in addition to the 22 they had given out) or are they still at 22? Do you know if they plan on offering acceptances sporadically up to the 15th, or if they are just gonna offer them all on the 15th of march?

the person I stayed with said that she got an email saying she was ranked the night after they review the apps (last year it was on a weds), but then the next morning she got the acceptance call... so I am pretty sure that they are sporadically giving out spots to qualified ppl up to the 15th, and as for whether the number is higher than 22 now I dont know, but I bet it is, since they went over so many apps on thurs, but who knows...

i interviewed on Jan 13th, and when I hadn't heard anything by Feb 15th, I e-mailed Cindy and got this reply:

Thanks for your email. Your application has been ranked by the Admissions Committee. I just received the files yesterday. I hope to get the emails out tomorrow to you. We are glad you enjoyed your interview day!

The next round of appointments should be made the end of this month and then the class will be determined by March 15th to give you an update.


I received the e-mail on Monday instead of last Thursday. hope this helps

Typically you have two interviews. You will interview with either faculty, 4th year med student or a community member.

The best way to do well in your interview is relax, be yourself, and be honest.

Someone in the interview feedback thread said they were told that as of 2/20/06 Mayo had already extended offers for all of their slots, so the remaining interviews were merely auditioning for a place on the waiting list. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

Overall, I just have to laugh at myself about this. I've managed to go months and months without stressing too much about the process. But now that everything is all done and I'm just waiting to hear back, I'm totally obsessed by it.

I interviewed in January and I haven't been ranked yet. They supposedly checked out my file last week but I have yet to hear. Anyways, don't expect it to be real soon.
