I hate polite rejections, I would rather they were straight forward:

"After revising your application, we have decided we do not want you at our school. You are either underqualified or we just ran out of spaces. Either way we don't want you here."

I cannot believe what just happened to me this afternoon! Mayo called, and I was accepted! I am going to MAYO next year!!!! It is everything I wanted, and I have literally screamed, cried, laughed, and was speechless all within 2 mintues of getting off the phone! I'm much calmer now, but still can't focus on much other than calling everyone I know! Miracles DO happen, so good luck to everyone in this emotional process!!!!

Thanks everyone! I am on cloud 9 for the next few months...:0) I realized I didn't say this in my first post, but they offered me a full ride scholarship too! (Just in case the first news wasn't amazing enough, apparently!)

Well, my state of residence is CA but I grew up in MN and my family is still there (this is totally giving away my ambiguous identity on SDN but that's OK because I'm still not thinking straight!) MCAT about US average for matriculants, not great, especially for their stats. GPA was high with an upward trend (basically one low grade first quarter freshman year and the rest all good.) I really think it's more than just numbers though at Mayo, they are really looking for people who are a good fit for their school (and I was really worried that I didn't express that enough because my interview didn't go that great.) I am so happy that it obviously went better than I thought it did and I'm going to Mayo next year!

I have my interview on Jan. 12th, I thought I would be sooooo nervous, but I'm surprisingly calm....for now at least!

Yeah I interviewed there the first week of December. The place is great and the people were amazing! They said I should hear 4 to 6 weeks from the day of my interview. I haven't gotten an e-mail yet saying I have been ranked so I'm waiting and hoping that I get that soon and praying I get scored high enough to get accepted. I wish you the best of luck on your upcoming interview!

thats what i'm waitin for too, a nice "you have been ranked message", or even better, a you have been accepted. I guess time will tell. Awesome school though.

Boy, they are slow. I'm approaching 8 weeks since interview and not even a "ranked" email. I know they took a two week hiatus during the holidays, but I'm starting to wonder how they will catch up to fill the class in time.
 
I guess they plan on having the class filled by March 15th...hopefully things do pick up if they are to meet that deadline!

Yeh, I interviewed in december, and was told that my application was in a line of applications to be reviewed and wouldn't be reviewed middle of january...
ultimateend im sure you'll be hearin soon.
 
Hey everyone,

Anyone one have any advice for the phone interview about the "Why Mayo?" question and also, "Is there anything else you'd like to add? Do you think this interview described you well?"

I know the best advice is be yourself and be honest-and i totally agree-but, especially regarding "Is there anything else you'd like to add," I'm just not sure what to say. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I did send in a letter of intent with updates (alot had happened since I submitted my original AMCAS, and since Mayo doesn't have a written secondary, and the phone interview isn't actually ever played to the adcoms, I wanted to make sure they knew about some things i felt were significant.) I can't say that it helped or that they even received it in time to consider when reviewing and ranking my application, but I certainly do not regret doing it.

On another note...I am really looking forward to finding out who my classmates will be!!! i know other people have had to be accepted, but apparently no one on SDN? Hopefully a few more people hear soon!
 
hmmm, it's probably a bit too late for me to send a letter in (8 weeks after interview tomorrow), but hopefully they know how much Mayo has influenced me. They know that 5 out of 6 of my family members have worked there, 2 of which are full-time and that I have lived in Rochester for 18 years. But who knows, the Chairman's kids didn't even get in.

When did you send the letter, I am assuming it was following your interview. How long after? I just interviewed yesterday and am planning on sending one.
 
I interviewed this past week and we were told that about 14 offers had been made :scared: Hopefully, some more of us will be hearing back soon!

It was over a month after my interview (5 weeks I think). I still wasn't reviewed or ranked at that time, so I called to make sure everything was alright and see if it would be appropriate to send an update. They had me email it and the next day I got the reviewed & ranked email (so I'm not sure if they even got to read my update before this?) About 2.5 weeks later I got the call.

14 huh?? Where are they?!?! I want to know who my new colleagues are going to be!!! (I definitely already feel like the most immature one, especially posting on here!) Oh well...if anyone is reading this and is going to Mayo next year, PM me!!!

My friend was recently accepted with a full ride i believe.
 
I called yesterday and Cindy said that she had just received a nice big stack of ranked applicant files and that an email was probably going to be sent out on Wednesday to those of us who have been ranked. She said that they were a little behind. Hope that helps!

Yeh they are sending out emails saying whether you have been ranked or not tomorrow. 16 people have been accepted so far.

Does anyone know if being ranked is a good thing? Do people that interviewed ALWAYS get ranked, or are some rejected right of the bat (i.e. is getting the ranked email a good sign, or a sign everyone gets). Or do some people that interviewed get the ranked email, some get accepted (wo/ recieving ranked), and some get rejected (wo/ recieving ranked email)?

Just trying to figure out where the ranked list leaves me!
 
I called too and they said I was just ranked last thursday (after 8 weeks). Everyone gets ranked that interviews. When the admissions committee meets next, they look at all the ranked people and take some from the top.
 
I guess the adcom meets february 1st to offer a few more acceptances.

I sent an update letter/why I am interested in the school after I was ranked. Does anyone know if this letter will be looked out when they meet to offer acceptances?
Anyone know if when they meet whether they look at JUST interview scores, or the whole application?

I *think* the interviews holds a significant amount of weight, but that they still look at the entire app when they offer acceptances. Although I do not know for sure. I would hope that any new info would be reviewed as well (update letters, etc) but I cannot confirm that either. I would call Jane or Cindy and ask (if you mailed your update letter, you could call to see if they had received it, and then ask if it would get reviewed if you've already been ranked, then post the answer on here everyone can know!)

I guess some decisons have already been made! Got my acceptance call from Mayo last night! I can't beleive it, I still feel like it was a dream! Thanks be to God for all the blessings that He has granted me!!! Hang in there guys, nothing is impossible, hope that some more of you hear good news soon!

Question --> Did they tell you waht sort of financial aid package you would recieve when they called?

Thank you! I'm totally still floating! I'm not sure why they would tell you Feb 1st, perhaps they're having more meetings, I know Jane mentioned this possibility when I had my interview.

As if getting into Mayo was not enough, I was also offered a full ride academic scholarship! It's totally unreal, g'luck to everyone still waiting!
