Hey guys,
I'm new to this site and I just wanted to see if I could get any advice. I just got my MCAT score back and I got Phys: 11 Bio: 11 Verbal:7.

I took it in September of 2011 and had Phys: 9 Bio: 10 Verbal: 9. I really only had 2 weeks to study both times as a result of work. However, I was scoring around a 33 on practice exams

I have about 150 hours of hospital volunteering and about 1000 hours working as a scribe. I also have about 40 hours of shadowing a GI specialist and an urgent care physician.

I did chemistry research for about 1 year and got published in a magazine.

My GPA is 3.66 but I just about failed a class since I reinjured a herniated disc and could not attend my classes. Since I knew it was a tough class, I instead focused on my other 2 courses. Also, I was unable to drop it since I would then have problems with financial aid and I was supported by state grants at the time. I cannot retake the course since it is a popular course and it is also not offered by community colleges.

I am thinking of applying this year but I'm not sure if I should retake my MCAT or not. I don't even know how competitive my application will look as a whole.

The two target schools for me are University of Washington and Uniformed Services University. Could you guys help me by providing advice? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

I'll assume that since you're applying to Wash that you're a resident of Washington. If that's the case then I would focus on writing an incredible personal statement (mention your herniated disk) and try to submit fairly early. Don't mention your practice test scores though, that will sound immature.

Above all else, just apply broadly. I know it sounds awful but applying to 10 schools will greatly increase your chances, especially given your MCAT history.

Okay thanks. I am a Washington resident and I only included the part about the practice tests to see what people think about retaking it.

You can get into medical school with those scores but you are at the 10th% MCAT for USUHS and only just above it for UW. You would need to add about 15 OOS schools where you have a decent chance of an interview in order to succeed. Time to buy the MSAR.
