Anyone have any suggestions for a good breakfast the day of the exam?

Kaplan recommends 1 carb/1 protein/ 1 banana. I mean what exactly would you eat?

I'm staying away from dairy/eggs cause I don't want to feel bloated or anything like that.

Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks!

i would imagine 1 carb/1protein/1 banana is something like waffles, pancakes, or cereal plus some kind of meat or eggs, and a banana. personally i didn't feel like eating anything and kind of forced myself to eat a powerbar. but during lunch i was definitely starving

Oh crumbs, I thought this was an invitiation.
I'm having what I usually have and not putting my system into Twinkie withdrawals. I'm doin' the banana and a tuna rice ball... but 7-11 doesn't have seaweed wrapped items in the states...

Kaplan also said to give up coffee... yeeaaah, so that didn't really work with my strong associations of coffee with good study time. I'll just wake up earlier and wait for the ADH to make a come back. Did you succeed with the coffee thing? Black Death.

Caboose.

I had 3 eggs (2 yolks), whole-grain cereal (Bob's Red Mill 5-Grain rolled) with milk, and a banana.

Why would eggs bloat you? 😕

Anyway - just remember the protein/fat or you'll be starving during verbal.

Anything with grains are good (e.g., cereal). Stay away from caffeine products as they'll make you edgy and want to go to the bathroom. Good luck on your exam. I'm sure glad that I don't have to take it again.

i suggest plain bagel (no butter/cream cheese), orange juice, banana, and sugary candy (sweedish fish).

I will be having...

A banana (carbs)
Yogurt (protein)
Bagel with protein (carbs, prtotein, fat)

The next question... what about for lunch? I will probably have a turkey sub with fruit and milk.

The Kaplan people said to avoid turkey because it makes you sleep... How about ham or tuna instead?

i wanna try perogies for breakfast!!! is that gonna make me a quick drop in blood sugar b/c it's easy to digest?

for lunch, i wanna try subway. but no turkey, no meatball sub. so i'm prolly just gonna try chicken since it probably won't induce as much sleep (or will it? since turkey is evolutionary related to chicken :0 ).

I worked out to wake up and ate salmon, brown rice, and veggies for breakfast (so what?). For a snack during the break I had raisins and peanuts, and for lunch tuna on wheat. I think the complex carbs go a long way in keeping your sugar levels steady.

That whole turkey and sleep thing is bogus. Tryptophan only makes you drowsy if you take it as a free amino acid on an empty stomach. Bananas also contain tryptophan, yet the Kaplan people tell you to eat those pretty much any chance you have.

Haha, I know. The whole Turkey-Tryptophan-Sleep myth has been debunked many times over; I can't belive Kaplan of all people still thinks it's true. The reason people get sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner is because of alcohol and the massive amounts of heavy food you are eating.

The people at Kaplan like to make stuff up.

I'll have a nice big bowl of Wheaties, like I have for every practice test. Oh yeah, the Breakfast of Champions!

I know, it's just that the number of pre-med people who buy into it is ridicuous. You'd think that pre-meds, out of any group of people, would be more likely to know how wrong it is. That, and the "no turkey, but eat 5000 bananas" gets me.

Oh Kaplan. I also find the green dot hysterical.

I will probably eat a bowl of cheerios and have a couple eggs for breastfast. I'll bring lots of stuff to snack on during the break. I probably won't eat much of it but I don't want to risk ending up starving during VR. 😉

I'm going to have my husband bring me lunch (and the kids!). I'll probably have a roast beef sub on wheat bread.

Other than that, I don't really know.

My advice: eat alot of whole grains. No whites.

How about....a nice Indian dinner for breakfast: chickpeas, spinach, naan, tandoori chicken, samosas..the works! i think that would be the ultimate 7am mcat breakfast. 😱

that would be a great idea, if you want to fall back to sleep in five minutes

This is the TRUE ideal mcat breakfast:

1) FOR PROTEIN: a pair of Ranchero Eggs, with lots of beans, onions, and salsa on top.
2) FOR CARBS: two tortillas (to accompany your eggs)
3) FOR VITAMINS: A bowl of fruit salad, including but not limited to bananas, grapes, nuts and yogurt.
3) FOR SWALLOWING YOUR FOOD: A big cup of good strong coffee.
4) TO END: Two chocolate chip muffins.

By the way, you might want to claim your health status as a "disadvantage" on your application, and excuse your lame mcat scores (only if they are lame) on a bad stomach infection the day of the test. It's the perfect cover.

I'm debating whether or not to see the kids during test day. My 2 year old can be cranky as hell and it makes me physically ill to have to leave him if he's crying for me. I'm thinking of calling them instead. Oh, and I'm eating a salad with chicken for lunch and sugar all day long. 👍 And 500 bananas.

I understand the cranky as hell 2 year old problem. 😉 Fortunately, she's a daddy's girl most of the time so if I see her during the day she'll be fine leaving me. The main reason I need my kids at lunchtime is so I can nurse the baby. I'm going to be in pain by lunchtime and the pump isn't going to cut it at that point. So my reason for seeing the kids is competely self-serving!

WOW, I really admire you guys. How somebody can have a family and go to school and apply to medical school all at once is beyond this 19 year old's wildest dreams. I seriously think you guys are brave and admire you for that!

If someone had told me this would be my life when I was 19, I would have thought I was insane. But really, it's not that hard. Of course I have to tell myself that since I have no other options now.

Thank you though!

Hmm, well even if turkey did make me sleepy, I forgot I was in Europe and unless I pack my own lunch, ham sandwiches are far more common, so I will probably be stuck with that.
