I'll be the first to admit that this post is probably related to my recent string of rejections, but I had also considered this path in the past. My question is this:

If one does not get into med school, or decides not to apply after having been on an pre-med track and decides to go for a Ph.D., is the GRE always required? Or do schools allow the mcat to substitute. I realize it is WAAAAAAY to early/ridiculous to suddenly think I can't/won't get in somewhere, but just wanna know for general knowledge.

I'm pretty sure you will need the GRE to get into virtually any Ph.D. program. It's way easier than the MCAT, though, from what I hear, and from perusing the review books for it.

I was going to go actually go to grad school before med school and usually the GRE is required, very rarely will they take the MCAT.

yup, GRE.

it's not that bad. maybe 1/8th as bad as the MCAT.

actually some schools take MCAT, university of washington and columbia are examples but obviously the PhD has to be in a field in Biological Sciences.

USF will take the MCAT for the masters in public health curriculum.
