So....I was wandering how much the curve really effects your final score. I mean if you get a 30 could you end up with a 28 or would it just change it by 1 point at most......anyone know?
the mcat scores are based off raw scores then converted. You don't have a 30 turn into a 28 since every exam is unique in there curve based on its individual toughness. If we look at just raw scores, yes, something that would have been a 30 on one exam could be a 27 on another because the curve isnt as lenient, its not as lenient though because it was an easier exam so you should have scored higher anyways.
They pre-scale the test. AAMC will make the test and be like we expect whatever % of people to get this correct. Then based off of that, they'll make their raw score to scale conversion. They've been doing it forever, so at this point they know pretty much what to expect from students.
