Recently APMA mailed letters to the students who took the MCAT exam this past fall. The letter included a brochure and an offer to order the APMA's award-winning CD/ROM on careers in podiatric medicine. If you are a student interested in learning more about podiatric medicine, please feel free to order your own copy of the CD by sending an email with your name and mailing address to [email protected]. We'll be happy to send you the information as soon as we receive your request.

We wish you all a healthy and Happy Thanksgiving.

Great info 👍

A bit of reading on podiatry practice and subsequent DPM shadowing really helped me to learn a lot when I was an undergraduate. It's nice that info like this is now readily available and free to prospective students.

MCAT fliers and shadowing have brought many decent folks to the profession.

hi, i was one of those people who got a brochure from taking the mcat. I was wondering what the average scores were of those who get in?

I have a gpa of 3.31, science gpa of 3.28, and mcat score of 32L. I have no experience in pod clinics, but volunteer work done in different hospitals. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Many of the pod schools state entrance stats on their websites...

I think your profile would be very competitive for all of the schools, and chances are good that you'd receive significant scholarship offerings if you applied early in the application cycle. Your GPA is roughly in line with most of the more competitive pod programs, but your MCAT is well above average. The L on MCAT writing may raise a couple eyebrows, but you could certainly counter that with a strong and well-written personal statement (or maybe just by disclosing at interview that English is not your primary language if that's the case).

GL with applications and learning more about pod. These forums and shadowing DPMs are great ways to learn 👍

I dont think the schools will care about the L.

with a 32, u can go to any pod school even with a 2.9 gpa.

The APMA's CD/ROM on Careers in Podiatric Medicine is a great way to start learning about this profession. However, nothing can substitute for shadowing with a DPM in his/her office. Please feel free to contact APMA to locate one of our DPM mentors in your area if you are interested. We'll do whatever we can to help find you someone close to your home or school. Best of luck! You can also preview the video "Podiatric Medicine: A Career that Fits Your Future" on You Tube. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqAGmzhKk7Y

The "You Tube" video is only a shortened version of the award-winning CD/ROM and there are no interactive features there, so if you are interested in the full picture, feel free to order the CD at [email protected].

Happy Holidays!

haha... no that's a friend of mine. He's actually from Oklahoma and is currently at the Cleveland Clinic program/Oklahoma residency program 1st year with another SCPM guy. The girl in there is currently at the St. Luke Prebysterian(SP) program in Colorado. All high powered programs that continue to choose great residents!

Just wanted to bump this thread up for those of you who may be just returning home from school for the holidays and finding lots of mailings waiting for you there. Have a happy holiday season and a great new year. Here's hoping that you get into the profession that suits you best!!🙂
