I have been out of school for a long time, and am considering buying the Gold Standard 16 DVD set to review the MCAT science material. Has anyone ever used these? Are they worth it?
😕
Thanks.

Those DVDs are too basic.....Spend some money and take a prep course..

I've been using the Physics dvd's and they seem pretty good. I'm also using the EK books and the Kaplan classroom course to supplement.

As far as the videos being too basic, I can't say for sure, but I can tell you that the underlying principle from the videos is to dedicate your time to the basics of what will be on the MCAT and not waste extra time on expanding your knowledge base. It sounds like an oxymoron, but I think it could hold some water, master the basics and learn how to take the exam, don't waste time on extra stuff that might not be pertinent.

If you know the basics you won't get thrown on a majority of the questions and if you know the exam you'll be able to guess wisely on the ones you're not positive about. To me, this seems like a better strategy.

Good luck with whatever you decide to use.

I have the GS book and DVD's. I wouldn't suggest getting the DVD's to study from. What I do is study from the book, as well as EK, there are others review books out there.....When I am tired of studying or need a break or only have a half hour or so I will watch some of the DVD's. They are kind of boreing but it covers important information. I haven't taken the MCAT yet but the DVD's did help me get an A in my organic chem class so the material is there.

So point is get them if you have the money to HELP you study but by NO means should they be your only source of studying, its just not enough. Hope this helps.

I agree with this. They seem to cover quite a bit of key info. I sit in front of the tv with a notebook and the dvd remote so that I can take notes, write down key info, and pause/rewind to re-review certain section. Then I'll go back and review my notes. But I also think you should invest in a "complete" program, so take Doc8404's advice and go with book/s as well. I'm working on the EK series and they seem to be a nice complement.
