okay, I was looking at my schedule for the year and I will be taking my MCAT nexts AUG. . My question(since I started taking my sci classes late)is that i will only have complete bio I&II , Chm I&II,PHY I and maybe o-chm I if they offer it in the summer(12WKS). Not finishing all my require class affect me in anyway with question on the tested. Thanks

*What is the avg. time to study for a 30 pluse Mcat score?*

Hmm.. 7days/week *12 weeks*6 hours = 500 hours.

In the summer they sometimes offer classes in a reg. session which is about 12 weeks. IF not they offer it in A or B which are 6 weeks each. I have heard that taking o-chm in a 6wks session is pretty hard, so i dont want to take my chances.

If thats what you were talking about or was it for the MCAT..... 😕

It looks like you'll just be missing Physics II, which is doable for the MCAT. You do need to know electricity and magnetism, but you should be able to pick up the important parts either by just studying on your own or taking an MCAT prep course. Organic in six weeks sounds like as good a definition of hell as any - I say steer clear and take the longer course.

As for study time for a 30, it depends on where you are when you start. I didn't seriously start studying until about a month before the test, and I just worked through a big prep book I got at a bookstore. Take a practice test in spring or early summer, see how you do, and go from there. Good luck - you can do it! 👍

thanks for the info., Are those prep course really worth the money? 😀

different people have different abilities.
i know people who studied for 6 months everyday and barely crack 30
and some who just study for a day or two and crack 30.

you need to assess where you are at. are you comfortable with the basic sciences? did you struggle in class? etc...

to be safe, give yourself about 6 months. try and study a section a day. VR one day, BS another and PS another. study 5/7 days a week for 2-4 hours day. then adjust accordingly to weaknesses and strengths.

i didnt do this personally, but sounds like a decent way to start.

How do student take on the april MCATs when their in school. Do student cut down on class during the winter session(like two class) and take the test. Sorry for all the DUmb questions I'm just confuse on how to take it all.

prep courses are worth the money I suppose, but if money is an issue just get the books and work out a way to take a full-length MCAT every week before the actual, just like you do in the prep courses.

I hadnt taken physics 2 before I took it in April, but it wasnt too difficult to pick up....

Just dedicate yourself to only studying for the MCAT while you take the prep course, and you will do just fine....

Students that take the April MCAT kill themselves. Stress from studying while having exams located around the MCAT is tough. I'd say take the August unless you want EDP.

As for test prep. It makes all the difference in the world.

If you have the luxury of taking the MCAT the August before the year of application, you should. Taking the August MCAT the year of your application is not recommended as it is detrimental to your chances of getting into a rolling school.

Hmm -- I think six months may be a little excessive. You definitely don't want to start TOO early because you'll burn out right before test time when it's most important to be on top of things. I gave myself 3-4 months and most of the people I know who took the April MCAT did too. And that's with classes and everything. I think you should be good to start in May if you're taking the August MCAT and can do most of your studying during the summer. Good luck!

I took Ochem like this - 6 weeks for the first half, 6 for the second.

It's crazy. Doable, but nuts. I was also prepping for the MCAT that same August, so it was double nuts, but at least you don't have to do any Ochem review since it's all fresh in your head.

I agree with most of the previous posts. It does reallly depend on where you are before prep. I recommend a few weeks of review and then take an AMCAS practice test to gauge your abilities. From there Study for ~3 months (so as not to burn out - vfrank), it is most essential to peak at the time of the MCAT. Sadly not everyone does. Some people will gain a large number of points through studying, some won't.

From my own experiences. Ater a couple prep weeks I scored a low 30's, this served to calm my stress, but also may have lessened my motivation for studying. I ended up increasing my score to lower-mid 30's, and scored a lower 30s on the real MCAT. So as you can see people will get varying results from their preparation. In my case I increased very minimally from all of my prep, but thats also the luck of testday variables and questions.

Unless you are a serious brain child or a glutton for punishment, I'd wait to take the April 06 exam. You will have plenty of time to finish the lower division science plus get biochem and genetics in before you take the test.
