MCAT test date and applying this cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You can take it as late as June, but that would be cutting it close. If you take it in early May, you'll be able to get your score by the time you submit your primary.

However, secondary applications don't get sent out until July, and usually, as long as you submit your application by the end of July, you are still considered early. This means you can take your MCAT as late as mid June, receive your scores by mid July, and as long as all your secondaries are prewritten, you'll be able to submit your secondaries by the end of July.

In either case, you should submit your primary as soon as possible (which means fill out your application once AMCAS opens in May so you can submit on June 1st).

Thank you for your response

Sorry for reviving the thread but I'm still trying to figure out the application process. I currently have my MCAT scheduled for April 24th, but it falls right before my finals and I would be much easier for me to reschedule it and take it in early May. From the responses here it seems as if I could submit my primary application at the same time for both dates. If so, why do all the test dates in April seem to be completely filled while there are openings in May?

???? Maybe because there are 5 dates in May and only 3 in April? That, and premeds are kind of anal, and people want their scores ASAP, and certainly before AMCAS opens for submission, even though they could wait a few extra weeks to submit with no adverse consequence!!

If rescheduling will afford you the possibility of scoring a few points higher on the MCAT, that will do way more to improve your application than submitting your primary in the beginning of June instead of at the end of June.

You can submit your primary application without your MCAT score. You can take your MCAT as late as mid June, and you will still be able to submit your primary. AMCAS will verify your application with or without your MCAT score, but your primary will not be considered complete until you receive your MCAT score.

Some schools will not send you a secondary until they have your MCAT score, some will. They will not consider your application complete until they have your MCAT score. As long as you submit everything by the end of July, you will be considered early.

It will make absolutely no difference if you take it in April or in May, or even June.
