What is the latest date to take the MCAT this year and still be able to apply this cycle? I'm pretty ignorant on the whole application process. I've read it takes up to a month to get verified, and during this month one can take the MCAT and wait for the results to come. By the time results come, the application should hopefully be verified. Is any of this correct, or am I spewing a bunch of bs?

Assuming that you want to send in your app by the end of June / early July so that you can be verified by August then you want to take the MCAT, at the latest, in Mid-late may. There is also a strat to fill out the application as early as possible, apply to one school without an MCAT and then add schools once u get ur score back.

Do you need an MCAT score for the app to be verified? Or is that just the other stuff like grades etc?

You don't need the MCAT to be verified. Verification is the process where they compare your transcripts to the courses you entered in AMCAS and make sure everything checks out. You need to submit AMCAS (which includes all your work/activities and personal statement) and your transcript(s) but your MCAT score and letters of recommendation can be added later, not needed for verification.

Thank you!

I suggest that you take one in April/May just to get a score and put on your application.
Knowing the score allows you to figure out which schools to apply to, imo.
If the score turns out to be bad, you can re-take it in June/July.

You can submit AMCAS with 1 school so that you get verified and then add more schools later when you get your score.

And that doesn't put you at any sort of disadvantage?

Why would it? You don't have to be complete on day 1. AMCAS doesn't even get released to schools until end of June or early July, whatever arbitrary date they decided for this year.

The only disadvantage would be that if you decide not to apply after submitting, then the following year you would be a reapplicant but only at that one school you submitted to. That's why you only do 1. Usually wise to pick a "safety" school that you would have applied to regardless of if you got a 28 or a 38.

That makes perfect sense, thanks!
