Hi everybody!!
Very grateful to be in a position where I have multiple schools to choose from. I’m interested in OB/GYN, but I’m not set on that and don’t want to close the door to any specialties at this point.

Medical College of Georgia
Pros:
  • Full tuition scholarship, could feasibly make it through all 4 years w/o loans
  • Closer to home/family

Cons:
  • Potential of having to move for clinicals
  • Huge class size (254 on Augusta campus), makes me worry about access to opportunities and relationships with faculty
  • Not as highly ranked, may be more difficult to match into more competitive specialties

University of Florida
Pros:
  • Partial scholarship
  • Felt the most “at home” there during second look
  • Faculty seems genuinely supportive and caring
  • Better reputation as an institution

Cons:
  • Would graduate w/ about 80k in debt, not including interest (assuming IS tuition)
  • Farther from support system
  • Should be able to get in-state tuition after first year, but not guaranteed

At the end of the day, I’m mostly worried about the mental toll of penny pinching during school/ dealing with loans and repayment options/ fighting to get IS tuition at Florida. I know that I COULD easily pay off the loans down the road, but graduating debt-free is no joke and I would love any input on whether the reputation/potentially better student experience is worth turning down that kind of money.
