I was assured at my interview that the class would be filled by March 30 and that everyone would know their status by late April.

I hear ya Bubbleyum. The waiting game is not much fun.

Does anyone know if acceptance letters come in a larger envelope than wait list or rejections? Is this like undergrad when you received a nice thick envelope when accepted, or do we have to open the letter to know where we stand?

My acceptance letter was in a small but thick envelope.

do you guys think they sent our the last batch of acceptances last week? i dont know about you all but i am sooooooo tired of rushing home from work to find an empty mailbox. sigh.......how exhausting and depressing.

I decided to call the admissions office this afternoon and was told that letters would be mailed the first week of April. I don't know if that means Saturday April 1 or some time the next week, but I am hoping something will arrive by Saturday, April 8.

This might be a stupid question, but does anyone receive an outright rejection? It seems everyone I have heard of gets on the waitlist.

do you know if they are acceptance letters?

Same here.

when did you interview?

I interviewed on the 6th of January.

I received my acceptance letter on 3/22/06. It came in a normal sized envelope, but was tightly stuffed with documents. Now I just have to decide between MCG and Mercer. Does anyone have any reason why I should choose Mercer and it's expensive tuition over MCG?

PS-I interviewed at MCG on Nov 4 just in case anyone wanted to know.

sounds like the people who are getting their acceptance letters now are ones who interviewed earlier on in january. i interviewed in february so am thinking i have a little longer to wait.

i wonder when they say they will be sending out the letters first week of april, if they mean that's the FINAL batch? i hope so. my nerves are shot from all this waiting.

anybody here get accepted to mcg after some bad interviews?? 😳

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
sorry..i just had to vent.

I really want to go to Mercer so if you want to go to MCG it would help me out a great deal.

Since you're accepted at both you probably know most of the main differences. I think Mercer and MCG both have a lot to offer, I know people who are accepted at both and excited about both.

Mercer uses problem based learning and has a small class size. Most of the learning takes place in small groups with a tutor. MCG on the other hand has fairly large class size with lectures and you use whatever style of learning you think is best be it group or individual study.

I personally wouldn't decide based on tuition alone. For these types of big decisions I've read that you'll be happier if you sit on the facts for a while, but then just make a gut decision.

Probably not a great sign.

u think? is today the last day of march? i thought they would send acceptances until beginning/end of april, as somebody on here posted before.

argh.

actually, i guess tomorrow is the last day of march.

i just read through some of the PMs i've gotten, and somebody who was a reapplicant from last year told me that basically if you don't hear by march, that means you are rejected or waitlisted... so i guess there's one more day left to hear any good news, if that principle still applies to this year.

They said at the interview that by March 30 (today) they will have decided on who they will initially accept to the class and they will also notify AAMC today. They still have to print all the acceptance letters and have them signed and mailed. For some of the last second decisions those letters might not be received until the first week of April. So there is still hope if you don't receive a letter today or tomorrow, but after next Friday or Saturday it is most likely rejection or waitlist.

hey all,
i thought i'd throw my name in here for anybody with questions about what mcg is like. i'd be happy to answer any questions about classes, books, etc. keep in mind i'm only a first year but i'd be glad to help where i can.

You totally need to call/email me when you get in. We'll get the G'Town folks together (finally!) and go out to celebrate. I'll buy you some kind of disgusting shot, like that one with the tabasco and the Jaeger in it.

Lady Wolverine,

Absolutely! The tabasco and Jaeger shot is my favorite. Perhaps my fellow SDN MCG applicants would like to travel to DC and join us.
Have you decided on UMD 100%?

I still dunno 100% yet. I'm on the top tier of the Colorado waitlist, so it's just a waiting game to get in there. I really liked CU, but I it's very difficult to justify the $75K OOS tuition for the first year, even if I am considered in-state after that. It would be really nice to be that close to the slopes in the wintertime...but that's a big chunk of change to shell out all at once.

In the meantime, I'm seriously looking into buying a condo in Baltimore near the med school. Talking to lenders and realtors and the like...it's a bit daunting, but the ball is rolling. I'll let you know what happens.

Man, I haven't seen you in forever! I think it's been almost a year. We definitely have to hang out before you leave for Georgia. (Remember, think "When," not "If.")

i think i will die a slow death this week while waiting...

if anybody interviewed february or after and receives a letter, please post.

I just called MCG again; I can't take it any longer 🙁 The woman that answered said that letter will go out in batches this week and next. I would like to believe her that there is no order to how the letters go out. I did ask if acceptances went first, and she said there is no order to the mailings. Does anyone believe that? I do hope it is true as that would mean I wasn't 100% denied!

boy, i hope so too. when did you interview?

i hate to say it but as they said on our interview day, class will be filled by march 30. unless they accepted people on the 30th but still havent sent out the letters (i'm not sure why they wouldn't have), i think the letters are probably waitlists or rejections. trust me, it pains me to wirte this as i haven't heard back from them as well but at some point, i had to be realistic...

btw, if you look on mdapplicant.com, there was someone who interviewed on feb 3 and got accepted about two weeks ago....:-(

Yeah Ive been mainly hoping for a waitlist by this point. You never know though. Good luck this week everyone. As we know, they have a very active waitlist.

You're right about March 30, but Linda DeVaughn said that it may take some time (about a week) to get all of the acceptance letters ready and signed by Dr. Thompson. On another positive note I also heard from a friend of a med student who is a committee member that they had ~70 seats left to fill as of around mid March. So I see no reason why they would necessarily have already sent all the letters. Also dogtired noted that they still have to send a batch out this week which I presume will fill the class. On a note of realism, I'm going to presume waitlist/rejection if I don't have anything by this Saturday.

My understanding of the whole process as pieced together from the interview day was as follows:

Leading up to March 30 the admissions committee is very VERY busy discussing all interviewees thoroughly. On March 30 they notified AAMC of the 190 intial acceptances they will offer for 2006. Those accepted in the initial group will recieve a letter in the first week of April but they emphasized that it does take time for them to get the letters ready. Next they will form the waitlist over the first few weeks in April and those people may be notified between now and early May. As the May 15 deadline approaches some will be accepted off the waitlist. MCG also does have movement nearly up until August when class starts. Someone I know was accepted off the waitlist only a few days before class.

Last year they accepted ~240 to fill a class of 180. This year there are 190 spots so I *hope* that it will take more, maybe 260, to fill the class this year. But that's just wishful thinking.

Anyway, Good luck everyone.

Thanks, I found it. Still, this guy got a letter dated March 21 so it wasn't from any of the last few committee meetings.

Oh, man, I am SO frustrated for you guys! How can MCG do this to you?!? 😕 I mean, I was lucky enough to withdraw my application from MCG in February, but I would be going ape **** right now if I still hadn't heard from them after interviewing on November 1st. I wish you guys all the best of luck! Hopefully you'll get good news in the mail this week.... :luck: Keep us posted. I think there are lots of folks rooting for you!
