Hey wjlj72,

Best of luck at MCO. I really liked the school and I was accepted not too long ago. Of the two interviews, my second one was tougher, but that seems to be just me.

Also the interviews weren't as long or as grueling as I expected from the interview feedback page. Although the questions did waver into hypotheticals and some policy, it was mostly the follow through on the reasoning that I think they liked.

Basically read up on policy, and think about the standard hypothetical ethics questions. Good luck again.

Hey wjlj72,
good luck to you. i was accepted at MCO back in october. the acceptance letter came really fast ! (within 2 wks of my interview) i had a lot of fun. the school has really nice facilities although toledo isnt the most happenin place on earth. my interviews were great. there are 2 of them, mine were about an hour or so each. my 1st guy was a surgeon and he was really cool, laid back but he asked alot of controversial questions about issues: abortion, cloning, stem cell research and ethics: DNRs, abuses etc... he asked me some really strange stuff (it was my weirdest interview out of all the ones ive had) but I was honest and straight up and he appreciated my answers. the second guy was more straightforward and asked the usual q's ie why mco, why medicine, why research/science, tell me about x and y experience. i think you will do great. let me know how you like the school. it is cool bc even if you are not an ohio resident you can become one after the 1st year and save alot of $
MCO is also cool bc they have a USMLE testing facility right on their campus so you can practice takin gexams tehre and u get 1st dibs on scheduling your test. they also offer tutoring sessions for the USMLE free of charge and have a 97% pass rate (last year) but they dont have a student note taking service for classes and i feel like a lot of students go to class
i think it is a great school, but i am not a big fan of toledo as a place to live for four years! anyway to each his own, let me know what u think and good luck ! :luck:

Hey wljl72!

Congrats on the MCO interview. I interviewed there for the MEDstart program in January (my Interview Feedback is the one for 1/31//04), and will be attending this August. I can honestly say that the interviews themselves were fairly laid back and converstaional--I did get some hypothetical questions but it didn't feel like they were grilling me. There were at least a dozen different interviewers and I only had 2, so I can't speak for all of them, but I actually enjoyed my interviews (and believe me I was VERY nervous). Just study up on your health care policy, KNOW YOUR APPLICATION, and answer all of your questions honestly (even if you need to admit you don't know an answer to one) and you will do just fine.

From all of the current and future students I have met this summer I really got the impression that MCO is looking for real, down-to-earth, friendly students who are enthusiastic about going to med school. Of course you'll have your gunners at every school, but the students there in general seem to be pretty non-competitive and helpful. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions, good luck, and keep us updated!! 🙂

It looks like there will be several of us at MCO on 1/13. I will be there as well. 😀 I look forward to seeing you guys there!

On another note:
I think Toledo gets kind of a bad rap. It's all a matter of perspective. For those of you who grew up and/or attending college in a big city like Columbus, Cleveland, or Cinci, (or bigger) I'm sure you think there is nothing to do. However, from the perspective of someone who grew up in rural Ohio with Toledo as her nearest city (and it was an hour away), I have always found plenty to do. The zoo and art museum are both world class. If you are into baseball, the Mudhens have a beautiful stadium downtown. The downtown area has been steadily improving each year. The Stranahan Theater (very close to MCO) brings a great series of 5 - 6 touring Broadway shows to town each year. (I have seen Phantom, Evita, Man of La Mancha) among others. Although you won't get the BIG names in music, there are plenty of concerts to be had. There are lots of great, reasonably priced restaurants of all ethnicities. If you look for things to do, you can find them.

Unless something has changed recently (since the beginning of this school year) MCO does have a notetaking service. It isn't school sponsored, though, so you have to pay for it. It seems like the students said $15-20 a year.

Thank you for all of your feedback, I look forward to running into some of you guys there. I guess MCO will hit you hard with many ethical questions so I might have to do some preparation. Good Luck to all of you .
