Ok, so I got an acceptance letter to the Mass. College of Pharmacy program last week but as a 2nd year transfer student. I am an out of state applicant and have my bachelors degree in Biology which means i've already taken organic, micro, physics, etc. They're saying they want me to complete these courses at THEIR university before beginning the PharmD curriculum! Has this happened to anyone else!? I think it's a bunch of crap and to me, it sounds like i'm not even guaranteed a spot in my third year! What's the deal???

Yes, that has happened in the past. When there's not enough spots in the first professional year, the college will give you a choice to enroll as a second year, which means, yes, you do have to take courses over; You can continue on to the professional year if you have maintained the minimum GPA. I know several people that have degrees and was accepted into the second year. I know this year the college is accepting approximately 80 second years, and 25 third years (or P1s) out of 2100 applicants, so they will be accepting many more second years than third years.

oh i see. Wow, well thanks for you feedback. I really wanted to go to Boston but I cant justify retaking all those classes. Especially when I've gotten an acceptance at another school...bummer.

One quick question. Did you get interviewed before receiving the acceptance letter? If you did, then its weird since acceptance to the second year doesn't require an interview

I had the same situation happen to me. I didn't have an interview but got accepted as a 2nd year student. I had no choice but to pay the $500 deposit becuase im still waiting to hear from 3 other schools, but I didn't want to pass up the chance of getting in somewhere...

When did you guys who got accepted into MCPHS - Boston send in your application? I send in my application through Pharmcas in January and they didn't send out my application until February. I still haven't heard anything from them, but I know that they just process my Supplemental application fee due to my bank online bank statement. I'm worried because people are getting accepted and I haven't heard anything yet. 🙁

I have a friend who goes to mcphs boston. they accept students into the second year because there are more seats. you are guaranteed entrance to year 3 as long as you have the correct gpa. it's better than nothing sometimes.

For those that got the 2nd year acceptance letters, do u mind sharing your stats please? It seems that they just look at the applications and randomly send out acceptance letters.

No I didn't get interviewed. I thought it was really weird, then when i looked at it more I realized what was going on. Talk about being disappointed!

yeah, good decision. I would have done the same thing but I had another offer at Shenandoah University. I would have loved to go to boston but i couldn't justify taking all those classes over when I don't have to. Good luck to you!
