Hi, I am kind of confused about the MCPHS application process and was wondering if I could get some clarification.

I want to transfer into the PharmD program at either Boston or Worchester. However, I do not know which campus I should choose to apply to. I believe that I have fulfilled all the prerequisite first year courses (Ex. Biology I, II, Chemistry I, Calculus I, II, Literature I, II, Intro Psychology and US History) except maybe "Chemistry Principles II with lab", consequently, would I be considered for Year 2 entrance if I applied to MCPHS-Boston? I also have completed most of the prerequisites for entrance into MCPHS-Worchester, but, I have yet to complete "Microbology", "Sociology", "Physics" and "Economics." Therefore, would it be inadvisable to apply to MCPHS-Worchester instead of MCPHS-Boston?

Also, is it too late for me to serious considered for entry, it seems that most people on SDN have already received interviews and acceptances when the deadline on PharmCAS is Feb 1.

Worcester/Manchester campuses are mainly for those who have their BS/BA degrees and aren't classified as "transfer" students.

I believe you're referring to MCPHS-Boston PharmD program, which accepts 2nd and 3rd year transfers. And yes, in your case you'd be more likely placed into 2nd year, because you haven't finished orgo I and II, micro, physics, etc.

By the way, you're not late. Applications are still being accepted and considered for next fall. If you have a high GPA (~3.5-3.8) and have some EC's/experience, you still have a shot...

Anyway, call MCPHS-Boston in your free time to talk to someone in admissions. They'll go through a checklist of things you need to do before turning in an application. I guarantee that their advice is better than mines and people on here.

Boston, Manchester, or Worchester? Which do you guys prefer? what makes one better than the other? which do you think is best for someone who has a B.S. degree already?

sorry everyone...i meant MCPHS....

First of all, it's MCPHS (sorry, I have no tolerance for reckless spelling). And to answer your question: if you already have a BS, you'll probably want to apply to Worcester or the smaller Manchester satellite campus. The Boston campus has the 0-6 program so you'd be applying as a transfer as a 3rd year in the program. Space is limited (probably around 25 transfer seats available per year) so it'll be much more difficult to get into. The program at the Worcester campus is accelerated (3 years) and it's designed for students who already have a B.S.

Between Manchester and Worcester, it depends on your personality. I lived in Worcester for the better part of 4 years right next to the Sole Proprietor, by WPI, and I LOVED living there as a single person. There were endless social events to go to within walking distance, lots of clubs, bars, great restaurants, venues for shows, and ice hockey (they were the Ice Cats when I was there, they are the Sharks I think now). I didn't own a car when I lived there and it was rarely a problem. Even though Worcester is a large city, I never felt uncomfortable walking around by myself at night (and I'm a girl), although I definitely was "on alert" for strangers around me. I would live in Worcester again just to get Watchusett Blueberry on tap in every bar. I live in Southern CT now, and I still drag my husband to Worcester occasionally to go to Nancy Chang's, which is the best Asian restaurant I have ever eaten at, try the crab ragoons if you ever go.

That said, now that I am married and have a daughter, I would not want to live in Worcester, and I would choose the relatively ruralness of Manchester. I have visited, but never lived in Manchester, and I get a slower vibe. It is definitely a beautiful area though. Also, it has much easier access to ski resorts, if you are into that sort of thing.

Just my two cents on the cities, I have never been to MCPHS.

Just to let you know, it's damn near impossible to transfer into Boston's PharmD program. Also, you won't be able to transfer into second year without having taken Gen. Chem II (Chemical Principles II at MCP). It's a prereq for Orgo, which you must take in your second year.
