So yesterday I got a wart that has been on my finger for 2+ years treated with cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen). My doctor did a much more...um, substantial job than my mentor did last year when he treated it for free (three times - it never got rid of the wart). Here's a picture of what my finger looks like now. I'm not asking for medical advice, but if anyone thinks this doesn't look right, just go ahead and let me know:

Note pharm notes in the background...I'm studying, I promise!

ick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙁

Looks like a case of the gonorrhea, cha cha cha!

I'll go with herpes whitlow.

and bamboozed, that's a pretty tame picture to what you'll be seeing in the next 4 years. granted Gimlet is a diseased mess, but he's by far not the worst.

that looks like the other frozen warts I've seen - and it might get worse. But are you sure it's not a gonasyphiherpilAID?

Just so you know, Gimlet, you'll never get into the Zig Zag with that thing on your finger.

Alright, this question might seem a bit ridiculous, and the answer may not be known. From everything that I have gathered reading these boards, the block exam schedule is usually Friday of one week followed by exams on the coming Monday and Tuesday. Are the exams on the Friday of the third week of the block with M/T exams in the fourth week? Or is it 4th and 5th week, respectively? Classes are scheduled to start on August 20th for next semester. I'm trying to figure out when the first two blocks of exams will be because I have two committments back home (weddings). If things work out correctly, I may be able to attend both (if not, at least one). Can anyone help me estimate the dates of the first two blocks? The two dates of importance are September 22 and October 13. Thanks for your help in advance.

The schedule seems to change year to year but I'll help you try to figure it out. Looking at this year's schedule they started class on Monday August 14th. Their first exams were on Sep. 5th and 6th (a Tues. and Wed.) The second set of exams encompassed a full week and ran from Oct. 9-13.

So let me try to summarize. It looks like you can probably count on having exams after completing your third week of school (Block 1). Then you'll have about 4 weeks of Block 2 before having your second set of exams. Hope that helps!

I have a question for those of you that came to MCW from out of town and didn't know anyone coming in. How did you go about finding a roommate? Did you use their list and just start calling people? Or is there a more effective way? I just know myself and know i'll need a roommate, but don't know what the best way to go about finding one is

Some guy has flyers posted on the bulletin boards looking for a male roommate for a place 5 minutes (walking) from campus for $500 a month or so.

I used the list and just called and talked to people. I did look at the info sheets in the school office (since I'm from the area and was driving around town looking for apartments anyway) to weed out people with incompatible preferences. I'm very happy with the result.

i have been wondering this too! i'm also concerned about waiting so late to find a place. where i live people sign leases in february that don't start until august. i just don't like no knowing where i will be living next year!

Don't worry too much about the timing either. If you're looking for 8/1, you have plenty of time. You can look as late as July and find a place. Esp since so many places are privately owned, they don't advertise/put up a sign until a month beforehand often. Of course, if you look early, you'll still be able to find stuff.

I hear ya on the anxiety of it though. Where I lived before places would fill up in Feb for August as well. Not so bad here.

Although that's the scene for Tosa. If you want to live downtown or on the East side, it may be different because UWM and Marquette are over there. So I can't comment on that area.

there are tons of places available by UWM in the middle of summer. rent signs are everywhere in July.

See if there are any people on the list near where you live now. You can meet and weed out the weirdos

You don't use 10 different highlighter colors?

How bad did that thing hurt when it was thawing?

I'm anti-highlighter - only blue pen for me.

It hurt like a bitch for about 20 minutes...now it only hurts when I bend my finger or press on it. Doesn't look a whole lot different from when I took that picture 4 days ago, just a little darker and scalier now, and more circumscribed.

I had a wart on my elbow. It was there for a couple years, and I never really noticed it. But last summer/fall it started getting bigger. Gross. So I went in, and the NP gave me the option of injection or freezing. I took the injection route, and couldn't have been happier. It was injected, turned red and hot and whatnot, but didn't really hurt (except for the needle, but that wasn't so bad either). It started getting smaller, and then had another injection in a month. Couple weeks after that it was gone.

I highly recommend injecting warts.

Do you know what you injected?

I second that question. Was it interferon? Or something caustic that caused the tissue to die.

Indo, I couldn't imagine walking on this thing if the wart had been on the bottom of my foot. That would pretty much suck.

Do you know what you injected?

she didn't tell me. i believe she said something to activate my own immune system. so i'm thinking maybe some bacteria or something. there was definitely some inflammation going on after the injection.

A derm professor in my CER session last year mentioned something about using candida for wart removal.

Here's a handy repro of a study describing it.

I'm betting that was it then.

This thread feels lonely. When my wife works second shift, my motivation to get up in the morning is GONE. I rolled out of bed around 11:15 this morning, as opposed to the two days before that, where I was already at school by 6:30am.

no kidding! where are all my future classmates? come on, guys and gals!

So, does anyone know of any schools or dance studios that are in need of a modern dance teacher? My wife wants a job teaching dance (that is her degree) and we are hoping to find something somewhere in the Milwaukee area.

busy buying "thermal underwear" heh

although when i interviewed in january, it was freakishly warm!

I liked January. I didn't like February. Spring break was awesome in March. April was crazy with the blizzard. May's not bad, which sucks because I need to study for finals/boards, so I can't go on 2hour bike rides every day, like I'd really like to.

Yeah? Well with friends like you, who needs friends???

My roommate will be gone June and July and we're interested in a sublettor for that time so she won't have to pay rent two places. So if you want to take your sweet time apartment-hunting, this may be the deal for you!

you guys probably don't care much cause i know your all busy but i have awesome news!!!

i presented my final design for my interior decorating class and the professor says that its one of the most pleasant and most relaxing designs she's ever seen, and she would even consider using it in her own home for a living room or family room! i got one of the highest grades in the class...i love this stuff! i'll miss doing design stuff when I come to medical school 🙁 but i know i'll love medicine just as much! 😍 i can't wait to help people!

i wonder if there will be any time in med school for me to do some sort of design stuff on the side? i mean, not like as a part time job or anything, but maybe just do a little design work for people i know or something? maybe I could help people spice up their apartments! did you guys know that fast food restaurants used to be decorated on the inside to make people try to eat faster and stuff so the restaurants could push more customers through and faster? thats so weird! no wonder we're all fat!!!

anyways I just wanted to say that stuff! i'm so proud! sorry i like totally spazzed on you guys about colors and design and stuff...i'm such a girl! 😛

Congratulations! So how did you set up your swatch board?

Nice work Bamboozed!!

you can totally help me decorate my apt next year bamboozed! i have no sense of design what so ever so i can use all the help i can get!!

Hi. I'm a newly accepted student to MCW. I've never lived in the Milwaukee area before, so what do you all do for fun outside of school? Are there any good bars and nightclubs? How's the nightlife? I'm from SF, so how different will life in Milwaukee be in terms of things to do on the weekends. Thanks.

if you have the time and interest in finding the nightlife, there's plenty of it. Brady Street and North Avenue on the east side, and Water Street and Milwaukee Street downtown both have pretty active bars/clubs/live music. If you're into a more alternative scene, the lower east side has your name all over it. If you want to feel like you're in a college town, the upper east side by UWM is exactly that, but if you want to feel embedded in suburbia, Wauwatosa (the suburb that the school is in) is definitely that.

Btw, asking if Milwaukee has good bars is like asking if the South Pole has any good snow. We have like the highest number of bars per capita.

Also, for some reason, uggs and popped collars are in? WTF?

They are? Either I'm not going to the right places to see this, or I'm subconsciously blocking these people from view and my mind.

Yeah, aside from the first week or so of school, I haven't seen anyone wear either of those "fashions." (One girl on the first day of school was wearing both at the same time though...ewwwww.)

You can't buy any alcohol after 9pm!👎

Not even from a bar? I'd assume bars open until early morning hours. In SF, they're opened until 2am (but there are places that open till 5am). Vegas nightclubs are open till 4:30am. Are you serious about the early curfew in milwaukee?

I'll take the 9pm rule over the laws in MN any day. No liquor in grocery stores. And even though they're open til 10pm, no liquor on Sundays. 👎

I haven't done this since I lived in La Crosse, WI, but the bars can open at 6am. 😀

Hey, Samenewme! I'm starting my new apartment search, and I was wondering if your landlord or landlord's brother accepts small dogs at their properties and if so, if they've got anything for rent. I remember you mentioning before that they own a lot of properties.

Thanks!

I do hate that rule. We always seem to remember that we could use a few more beers around 9:15. Or 10:30, as the case happened to be tonight. I smell like the campfire I sat around for several hours now.

What about carry out. It's a nice little work around. You just need to find a bar that will sell you a case of beer, or whatever, and you're set. 👍
