Edit: Pratik - you posted while I was writing this...looks like you answered all the questions already. If you want to do some sort of poster, I can have Kinko's print it up that week. No worries on the slacking business...the AIG has been the furthest thing from my mind this summer.

Just the ass will suffice.

1) You guys are doing banners? If you can make a banner to hang off the front of the table or something, that would be sweet! Be sure to include the universal symbol for anesthesiology...a, uhh...dragon. Yeah, that's it, a dragon!

Seriously, yes, we would like a banner. Right now it sounds like we will just be sitting there with a pad of paper otherwise. Do you need other info for it? Preferably, it would say Anesthesiology Interest Group or Anesthesiology IG, because I don't think people will know what AIG stands for.

2) I will definitely be there, and I'm pretty sure Pratik will be back in town by then. Pratik?

3) We aren't a dues collecting organization, so I believe our presence at the fair on the 25th would be unnecessary.

4) No need for anything else special, unless Pratik gets ambitious and makes a kick-ass poster or diorama or something. Pratik?

Thanks Ashleigh!

Thanks Andy and Pratik! If you guys want to be at the 2nd org fair, it's totally up to you. Most orgs are gonna be there, even if they don't charge dues -- just to increase membership I think.

Someone up in student affairs makes the banners. Gina and I'll put you on the list for desiring a banner with a dragon as opposed to a pony. Is Trogdor ok for the dragon? 😉 Actually, seeing as how happy she was that she was gonna have to make banners, I'll be surprised if she doesn't misspell org names on purpose.

She does it every year. She doesn't tape them together though, so bring some tape and scissors. And it'll take a while to put them together, so leave time for that.

Also, yes, I am awesome. That is all.

Wow! You guys convinced me. I joined the AIG today!!! 😀

It must have been the dragons.

It was definitely the dragons.

You know. I don't think Marty's ever going to learn his lesson about signing out of the library computers. It's nearly August, and is he even in the country?

Time Warner Cable seems to be the most popular. They have wireless modems available, I believe. Not cheap in any sense of the word, though.

My new roommate and I got DSL setup through AT&T. Turned out to be cheaper for us than Time Warner. It's actually MUCH cheaper than I was paying for DSL in Colorado, so I'm thrilled about that!!!

So, my dad wants to know what breweries he can go tour when he comes to move me in - any preferences/tips?!

Well, there is obviously the Miller Brewery tour, which would be cool just for the sheer ginormity of the place. But I hear that the Lakefront Brewery tour is not to be missed. The Sprecher Brewery would be something to see, too. Check out this website to get an idea of what's around: http://www.milwaukee.org/ems/breweries-brewpubs.htm

I second the Lakefront Brewery tour. Excellent.

If you're feeling adventurous and have some time to see more of the state, the Capital Brewery tour in Madison was pretty sweet. I've heard that the New Glarus Brewing Co.'s tour isn't that great.

As far as tours go:

Lakefront > Sprecher > Miller

Tonight's the night! I'm driving up to Tosa with my parents. My car is completely packed with all my stuff!! There's just enough room for us to sit. lol.
I am so excited! Not looking forward to that ridiculous road trip from San Diego, but as long as we get there safely, that's all that matters..

Has anyone heard about any of the pre-orientation activities? I should be there by the 4th and I would love to meet some people the weekend before. I'm pretty sure I won't have any internet though, unless I can just go check it at the school.

I can't believe I'm leaving!! hehe, Hope to meet all of you soon!!

There's some stuff planned for that weekend I think. I don't know where my papers about it are at the moment. You can use internet in the library at school. Have a fun trip.

Hi everyone,

Well I just got off the waitlist yesterday, and am coming to MCW. I was wondering if anyone knows where I should start looking for an apartment, or if any of the complexes in guys live in have an empty 1 bedroom apartments for rent. Thanks in advance for the help.

If you look back in this thread (I know it may take a while) there are lots of posts about apartment complexes, where to look etc. I live in the Reserve. It's a bit pricey, but I like it.

Thats not fair. I haven't logged onto SDN in the library since finals. You must have found and old one. I'm back in the country, having visited London, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Corfu, Athens, Belgrade, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, and Bruge.

Hi to all M1s.

Just be glad that Marc didn't find it first. Or else it would've been in big red letters or something. 😉

And seems to me you sorta deserve it. 😉 The only times I've left Milwaukee has been to go to Chicago. I can't even go home. =(

anyone recommend one lender over another? I need to hurry up and choose one today or tomorrow.

Anyone up for helping me unload my stuff from a moving truck on saturday?

Orientation starts one week from today. Crazy.

no.

My stuff is in a Pod somewhere. I don't even have sheets right now. How 'bout this god damned heat/humidity?

What stores do we have here in wauwatosa? I've been to pick n save and walgreens and sentry.

Ummm... there's a Sendik's on North around 68th street. It's like a nicer sentry.

I do most of my grocery shopping and general stuff shopping at Sam's Club (since there's no Costco here yet -- I've heard rumors that there's going to be a Costco in Mequon in about a year from the people who own the land that Costco plans to build on). It's on Mayfair in West Allis, so South of the school. Membership costs $35/year, but I think it's totally worth it.

This heat sucks....where is the closest air conditioned bar? They always say that med students lose weight their first year because they are too busy studying....they never said anything about sweating it all off before the year even began!

haha... lots of people I know are complaining about gaining weight this past year because they snack while they study, and people are using the summer to lose the weight they gained.

Well, tomorrow is moving day. See you all this weekend!!!

I love the heat. But I'm always cold... I definitely think the climate is changing. We've had really warm winters the last number of years, and this summer seems to me to be warmer. WI and MN always have a bunch of 90+ degree days, but I think there have been more. I gotta say though, it's always weird when it's the same temp. as Texas. A few of us just got back from there today. Everyone in TX asked if we could handle the heat there, and we would just respond that the temp in WI was actually the same!!

I miss Arizona weather I must say.

As for warm winters, I beg to differ. This past winter was beyond cold. I learned this year I had Raynaud's Syndrome (which is not Riley-Day) because of the coldness I was exposed to here that I had never been exposed to before. I'm not looking forward to 3 more winters.

Man, you guys are all moving in and getting ready to start your M1 year...I envy you so much...cause there's still time to back out and not have any debt!!!!

See you all at the Org Fair. I'll be at the Emergency Medicine desk.

Do you know who the AIG is sharing a table with?

You guys are right next to WMS, and AIG's on the corner, I believe next to an entrance of the AC.

The cool side goes: AIG, WMS, LDSSA, OSIG, CMA, SEMA, ... I forget who's after SEMA, and my MCW acct isn't working right now to check it out.

There is a target near 124th. There is also a walmart on 60th but be warned...dont go there at night( they have really cheap milk though..around 2 bucks a gallon). The Sendik is really expensive but is high quality. But most importantly...the chancery is walking distance from school.

For places to eat near school...ill list my favs in order

taco bell....the only place where 3 bucks is a full meal. One on mayfair near school.
NO 1. Chinese take out. On north and 61stish. They also deliver.
Papa Murphy's...pizza they make but you bake...on bluemound somewhere.
City Market. Right across school. Great soups and sandwiches
Bunch of good indian rest on bluemound near brookfield.
Subway...around north and 68th and north and 124th
Qudobas..near the taco bell on mayfair
Noodles across the chancery on state street.

I know what Raynaud's is...

But however much you beg to differ, the last 5 winters have been warm I'd say. Ashleigh, you very well might have died during the winters of my childhood. Also, northern WI/MN winters are noticably colder than southern WI.

Shut up! Are you kidding me? I love papa murphy's but I didn't know there was one here.

I 😍 Target.

There's also Chipotle, Qdoba, Culver's (frozen custard and burgers), Burger King, Schlosky's (sp?), Arby's, Noodles & Co, Quiznos, Topper's Pizza (trust me it's good. delivery until ~ 3am) and McDonalds all on the corner of Capital and 124th St. oh, and starbucks too. which is also where the Target is, as well as Jewel-Osco (grocery/drug store). There is a taco bell in the Target.

It's on 76th, 84th, or 92nd and Bluemound, and it's connected to a Subway. Same with Brueggers Bagels (except not at the same street as Papa Murphy's). It's around one of those 3 streets. I'm thinking that Papa Murphy's is nearer to 76th and Bruegger's is nearer to 92nd.

Kopp's Custard too has good food and custard. There's one on 76th and Layton, then one way out in Brookfield on Bluemound.

Gille's is pretty similar to Kopp's. It has great custard and decent food and you don't have to drive all the way to Greenfield or Brookfield. It's just off of 76th and Bluemound in Tosa.
To all those Chancery-goers out there, has the new Applebee's at 68th and State begun to put the squeeze on the Chancery yet, or is it still going strong?
