MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also, Pratik may have only posted 79 times, but when you divide awesomeness provided to thread by total words posted, he ranks #1 in my book. 😍

Pratik, have you been watching 24? O...M...G!

the first minute or so of my Sex history video is done...and there hasn't even been any actual interview filming done yet. the opening production company splash and THX logo have been smoothly added in with the MCW logo.

I needed a change of underwear after last night's episode. I wonder what the rest of the season is about?!?!?!

Jack gets radiation sickness and has to kick his own ass for succumbing to the terrorists. That's my guess.

Can we get xandie to post more if we ask her a lot of questions?

Notice that Dr. Mom's oklahoma thread isn't closed.

DrMom is a graduate of OSU-COM, not OU. We'd be pleased to have her, but she might object. The OSU-COM thread only has 75 posts at this time.

she graduated? how the hell did she have time to study whilst making 50 posts per day. Side note; I saw the word "whilst" written in my phys text.

I think that she's a PGY-1 in Emergency Medicine. She is awesome.

Meteorologists had predicted a light dusting of snow with up to an inch in the Portland area. However, by mid-morning, about two inches of snow had accumulated in some places, including Hillsboro and Clackamas. Three inches had fallen in La Center, Wash.

At least an inch and a half of snow crippled traffic in downtown Portland, where the slightest hills proved too much for many vehicles.

ROOKIES!

just kiddin', Indo. The freezing rain mixed with snow would suck. I also can't imagine trying to drive in a mountainous region with slick conditions.

If you deleted all the "How many threads have you killed," and "Yes! I found my broken antenna" threads in the Lounge, Dr. Mom would have like 100 posts. Those threads are like time-lapse chatrooms for the few people who post in them.

Her post total dropped from 32K to 15K overnight because they deleted some of the old conversational threads according to mssheadoc.

Yeah it is true. We don't have the snow plow infrastructure, driving skills, or geography to handle snow. No matter where you are, you have to drive over a hill to get home. Plus, when it snows it always catches everyone off guard. The weather conditions required to get accumulating snow over there are so specific that they are rarely predicted correctly.

I didn't realize you guys get snow so rarely. I've always pictured Oregon as a very snowy place. Is it because the trade winds from the Pacific keep it too warm to snow, or???

I think so. The moisture for snow comes from the opposite direction that the cold air does. So under certain circumstances we'd get a decent storm over a decent batch of cold air. This particular batch of cold air seems to be reaching all the way to texas.

They've already cancelled everything for tomorrow.

So the apartment I've lusted over for more than a year now is finally available.

My current lease goes until July 31.

This sucks.

The only way I can get the new apartment is to find someone to rent my current apartment.

What is your current rent? 1500/month? What is so special about your lustful (luscious?) apartment?

Well, I actually don't even know what it looks like inside yet! 🙂 I like it for the location. It's above Noodles & Co on Harmonee and Underwood.

My current rent is $760. The new rent would be $700. Not much savings, but it's still something. Heat included in both. I've heard it's really nice.

Oh yeah! I know which one you are talking about. Every time I go into noodles i say "man, I bet those condos are expensive." Not too bad though!

Exactly!!

So how do I get it? AAAAHHHHH!!!!!

It's even pet-friendly according to the paper. I didn't specifically ask about that yet though. But they called me back today and left a message saying that yeah, it's still available and call us back to take a look.

It's available immediately. I was hoping they'd say available 2/1 or 3/1.

Is that for a 1 bedroom or a 2 bedroom apartment?

So I'd have to call the new place back tomorrow and probably act fairly quickly on it.

Do I take the gamble that either I or my apartment management will find someone, or is it too risky.

Normandy (my current place) has no 1-bedrooms available right now, but they said they will have many available 3/1.

I'm so torn.

I wonder if you could put a small deposit down for a month or so to see if someone will take over your lease.

You should put up sublease advertisements on craigslist just to see how many people are interested in subleasing your apartment. I know there was a family looking to sublease a 2 bedroom apartment while the dad goes to grad school

I'm afraid I'll be in a similar situation in the summer, because I want to move closer to school (as in, across the street 😛), but I don't want to pay double rent for anything.

So, um, who's YzIa? s/he is in the class of 2009.

also, I saw Martin at Mayfair today with another guy from your class. I swear they look like brothers.

ug. going through craiglist. So many are looking for 2-br.

I'm willing to bet the amount I need to pay off my apartment that he was with Jessen.

YzIa = Luke

Oh, Marc, you have too much free time.

gotcha. I think Luke's dating one of my phys lab partners....

I didn't see any Jessen in the stalkerbook....?

Living close to school is great. I only buy one tank of gas per month.

Side note: "I put them boys on rock-rock" Is "rock-rock" a reference to erections? Yikes.

Lessons I learned from personal experience at today's complete physical "Mr. B" session...

When asked the location of the internal jugular vein, "the neck" is not an appropriate answer. Likewise, when assessing a surgical scar at the base of the patient's neck, "neck surgery" is an equally imprecise assumption.

Finally, when told to describe what your visual inspection of the chest reveals, do not begin with "well, he has one."

How does MCW interviewing for a place Vs interviewing for a waitlist works?

other M2s...

so we get this email saying "you don't need to write up the Mr. B case."

so nobody but a few take notes during the exam.

then after we've done it, we get an email "there is some confusion. you DO need to write up the case."

well that's just peachy keen for the 90% of us that didn't take notes.

Sebastian said he'd do the write up and put it on ANGEL. I didn't take notes.

EDIT -- ooooooo. that email. I HATE CER.

I just got down sending an email to Dr. Mitchell and Leslie. I was in the first session yesterday. I asked specifically to Leslie about the write-up. She said that she didn't think there was one. She said she wasn't absolutely positive, but I didn't say that in the email. 🙄 I also mentioned in the email that maybe 1/3 of the group took notes on the hx and that fact that the patient didn't even show up yesterday and we examined Martin instead, so there are no abnormal findings to even report. So I asked if we're just supposed to make something up.

That class just pisses me off so much.

I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna do urology. I got the boring vibe pretty quickly.

And on a high note, I put up an ad on craigslist today, and already got a response. Keep your fingers crossed!

Same deal as April, here. I was in the 2nd session and I think about 2 people were actually taking notes on the physical exam part. We covered Mr. B's conditions in about 2 minutes...the rest was spent on a completely normal physical of Ed. What the heck am I supposed to write up about that?? I guess it will be good practice for getting the "normal" nomenclature down.

My interest in urology has actually been piqued, although not necessarily stemming from the "male exam" experience. I like the idea of it being more of a split clinic/OR specialty, kind of like ophthalmology. I might try to take a 3rd year elective in it (although ENT would probably be more useful for my 1st choice specialty).
