MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
On Saturday, I'm going to try to do a quick review of CER, and maybe type up a study guide for that, so I can review it a little at a time, because there's no way that a Monday afternoon review of CER will be anywhere near enough for a cumulative exam. Likewise, I'm probably going to try to do an hour a day of block 1 and 2 micro, and then yeah, catch up in path.

I remember when I was tired of studying in block 2 last fall

And Owen was kind enough to stop me in the library and tell me how much MORE my life will suck next semester with Pharm. Thank you, Owen. Just so you know, there's no Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny hates you.

Awesome. I really hope I'm able to remain motivated while studying for Step 1. I usually do a lot better when I'm reviewing for long periods of time rather than trying to learn it for the first time. Or so I tell myself.

I thought fall semester was way worse than spring, even with step I approaching. For us (and I hope for you all), the CER stuff really calmed down in the spring. Path got much easier (which I can't guarantee for you guys given the new direction of the course), and pharm isn't that bad, once you get used to the written exam format.

Overall, I found I had much more free time in the spring to do things other than study. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but in my opinion, fall was the worst, and you guys are nearly done with that.

I agree completely.

I can only hope. Fall of M1 was worse for me than spring, because we had so little free time. Other than block 1 neuro and CTB, last spring went pretty dang well. The week off before finals was awesome.

Are micro scores online?

Now they is. The correct answer to #11 is A though, which the online exam does not yet reflect, so my score is 2% higher than it says.

Good. Any others up for debate? Prolly no.

It was a pretty straightforward exam. I'm not unhappy. Okay, studied most of Thanksgiving and into the night all week for it, so I could wish for a better score, but I'm happy enough.

Oh, I feel heavenly now. I went to Lucille's last night for a while (like five hours 😛), had a moderate amount to drink, slept for 13 hours, and now it looks like Christmas outside. Just threw a pizza in the oven. 😀

In honor of the snow, I'd like to post the following video of Oregon drivers

how is that even possible. good lord.

I'm guessing a very unfortunate combination of snow over black ice, sloping streets, utter lack of road salt, and people whose driving skills are well-adapted for rain.

We don't use salt in oregon. It snows 2 times per year and everyone lives on some kind of hill. By "hill" i mean what you all would put a ski resort on here.

I'm getting this for the next snowstorm

+ accelerating as you approach another car

I think the acceleration was provided by the hill.
That first vehicle ricocheting off everyone else was audibly accelerating on the way towards the light pole. I have no idea why, but you can hear the engine rev and the wheels spinning.

Oh, the first one. I forgot about that one already, and you're probably right. I dunno. Maybe they panicked because they weren't getting where they wanted to go and stepped on the gas hoping to make the tires bite. People do dumb things when they panic. I myself touched my brakes very lightly once when sliding on ice while traveling at the breakneck speed of 7 miles an hour, and promptly slid into an agonizingly slow, graceful spin towards a guardrail. I steered into the turn and regained some traction, but by this time I was facing the wrong way and I was faced with the choice of sliding into the guardrail or being in the right lane facing oncoming cars which I knew darn well would not be able to stop. I went for the dented fender.

That was my very first experience driving in snow, in Kentucky on the drive up to Wisconsin in '96. Fun times.

What is wrong with McBrizzle's exam questions?

I am discouraged. I dragged myself through a low-quality perusal of a fraction of the nice CER exam review outline on Angel, a small pittance of the micro review I intended, and did the reading for tomorrow's geriatric exam. Nowhere near what I hoped to accomplish tonight. The end of the semester is both too close and too far away, and the only thing I'm getting from the melatonin the sleep specialist put me on is a heck of a bad mood.

And I cannot find anything that says melatonin does anything for sleep maintenance, which is my problem.

AND! AND! AND! I just tonight, while accomplishing nothing in the library, met a chorus of three more M-3's who told me how much worse next semester would be than this one.

yay?

I disliked micro far more than I disliked pharm. Plus, the second semester of M-2 year is sort of the end in sight... very high burnout, but somehow pharm felt more "clinical", and that always made the classes easier for me.

Yesterday, the wifey and I accidentally slept in until 1:30, and then I got about an hour and a half done at Alterra before I hit a wall. I'm sure you accomplished more than me.

So I was doing a little perusing, and I didn't realize Wisconsin had one of the strictest laws on carrying firearms. Doyle's vetoed the concealed carry law twice now. 🙄 I can't wait until he finally gets overruled, because I'd head out and get my CCW...

Wisconsin is the other No-Issue state, and its law is even more extreme than Illinois. In Wisconsin, the Right to Carry is outlawed under all circumstances, even in one's home or business premises. However, a decision of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, interpreting Wisconsin's state constitutional right to arms, held that in most cases the ban cannot be enforced against people who carry on their own property.

Survey: Which super power would you rather have: the power of flight (think superman) or invisibility? (yes, your clothes will also be invisible so long as you are wearing them at the onset of invisibility).

Why do you need to carry a gun? If you really want, just carry it anyway like everyone else.

And definitely invisibility. Hands down.

I'd have blown him away before he ruined more innocent lives than if he'd been stopped. And yes, I know how to shoot, but no, I wouldn't carry without a permit, because that's a great way to get in a lot of trouble. I'd rather not have anything block my M.D. licensure or DEA number.

Definitely invisibility.

Was the wikipedia citing really necessary? So everyone should carry a gun just in case. Sounds like overkill to me. Edit: No pun intended.

But I need to bow outta this conversation. It probably wouldn't go anywhere. I'm a democrat.

I was just giving you a link to the story that made me decide to look up our gun laws. I don't think all people should carry a gun by any means, but I'd like to. You can't even keep a gun in your car, unless it's in a case, in the trunk. I don't really see why guns are a Republican/Democrat issue. I was Republican, became moderate, then headed libertarian, but I voted for Russ Feingold, because (among a number of other reasons, like the Patriot Act) he's against most gun control laws.

Personally I wish our state government would get around to passing the Puppy Act which will require all people to be carrying adorable puppies with them. Or kittens, so I guess it will be the Puppy Kitty Act.

Reminds me of my days when I drove the snack cake delivery truck. Off to play Chutes and Ladders now, cause my umbrella is once again waking up crying in the middle of the night.

I think I would have to go with flying. Invisibility would be more useful in criminal endeavors, but I think flying would have to take the edge if you want to use your powers for good. Plus, I'm too clumsy to pull off invisibility. Everyone would know there was somebody in the room when I bumped over a lamp or something. I would definitely use flying every day.

Very good point. I would probably end up doing that.

Can I have the skill of being completely silent along with invisibility so people can't hear me coming?

I would go with the flying just because it would feel so good to soar like that. And I could fly south to get some sun whenever I needed some.

Out of control, my worries are huge!
Cause I'm behind, like I never knew.
I've got a crappy point of view;
I've got a bad attitude!

breaking news: This sucks.

breaking news: This sucks.

I'm not feeling as awful as I was about the whole thing last week. Not sure why; I think I realize that if I study a decent amount, the worst thing that will happen is that I will pass everything, and at the end of the week I will be done studying.

I hope I'm studying enough to do a little better than just passing everything, but right now I just can't get all wound up about it. This is unlike me. Perhaps pod people have taken over my mind. I, for one, welcome my pod people overlords.
