MCW Class of 2010, Part 3

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Little bit irritated at the class of 2010 right now for blowing off the board review session tonight.

Only two of you showed up. Thirteen 2008ers showed up.

Nice.

😡

I thought it was a Q&A session! I didn't have any Q's!

I talked to a CleanPower employee while waiting at the bus stop (for the bus that was 15 minutes late) who wanted to know if we really had dead bodies in the school. 😛

i hope you said, "yes, every week in medical ethics class there are about 200."

Ironically, I was working on notes for the board review session I'm going to tomorrow night, the one the SA set up with Pratik. I have to be ready! I have to do my notes! I can't let Pratik down!

when you're in guy-love with someone like me, trust me...you get used to being let down.

Hey, wait a minute. I just got the e-mail announcing it. It said it was a used book sale.

It is not disrespectful to blow off a book sale if I don't want books.

If this starts another pissing contest, I'm handing YOU the mop!

And I want to see my face in this thread when you're done!

RE: Pissing contests.

"Hi, my name is The Medical Profession. Have we met?"

Am I missing something?

Me too.

And last night was a session sponsored by AOA to give advice about how to study for step I. The book store was there selling books with a 10% discount in case anyone wanted to buy any. Every previous year, we have had >100 people show up from the given M2 class. That is what ticked me off (that and seeing how upset the person was who organized it). Going from over 100 people per class to two people. Sheesh.

Well, I do feel bad for whoever organized it. The announcement I saw (the final one, which arrived at 11:00 p.m. after the event was over) sounded like a book sale and some generalized board prep advice. I just don't usually go to stuff like that. There are already tons of people giving me advice. I also kind of suspect the organization of the board review study groups stole the evening's thunder. It sure did for me.

When is the session hosted by the slackers who barely passed their classes but scored in the 99th percentile on step I?

But seriously, AOA is a lotta bit intimidating for those of us who aren't really smart enough to be in med school anyway.

here are the new anti-statutory rape ads

yikes, who approved these ads? If I had a daughter like that, there's no way I'd let her be in an ad like that.

Dude, that first ten-year old is hot. I'd statutory date her if I wasn't married.

Wait, "just because she has the body doesn't mean she has the brain?" How derogatory is that to the pubescent young ladies of our fair nation?

um, they're photoshopped. Not the girls real bodies.

No kidding!

Furthermore, it could also be construed as racist. I'm pretty sure the person without brains was the one making the ads.

So, good thing they canceled my session at the VA yesterday. My car was stuck for a while this morning because of the snow underneath it, and this was after my landlord snowblowed the parking area. Yesterday, after the city plowed the alley, there was a good 3 feet of heavily packed snow lining the parking area.

Anybody from the class of 08 or 09 want to comment on the value of watching the videos that Dr. Ho made for pathology?

Yes, and? Okay, we're going to put your daughter's face on a body of a woman with exposed cleavage. No thanks.

I put that because you said if I had a daughter "like that."

I'm not familar with these videos, so I'm guessing they can't be that important.

Sorry, not much advice here.

Yeah, I don't remember any videos either. Maybe they're new?

No. They had them our year. But nobody used them.

For his exam: USE THE PHOTOS USE THE PHOTOS USE THE PHOTOS.

Several of his questions I got right just by recognizing the image from the notes.

I basically ended up skipping and never even listening to his lectures. I read his handouts and compared/followed along with his powerpoints which I printed out. The neuro stuff was one of my best path exams.

oh my god they threw the baby out hte window!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :scared:😡

oh my gosh not funny the baby could have died!!!!!!!

Oh, the news story from two days ago. The building was on fire. It was a good decision. The policeman caught the baby. Yay!

I've heard that listening to his lectures wouldn't be very helpful anyways, because he has a very thick accent. I'll definitely look over the pictures - his little introduction said that we should know them.

exactly why i gave up. i sat through one lecture and walked out of the next. I couldn't understand a thing he was saying.

Yeah, the mp3s were no help either. Notes are pretty complete though.

Everytime Dr. Ho sees me in the hospital, he stops and talks to me. One time it was in the frozen path lab with one of the CT surgeons. He was like "Oh, you ahh such a good student. You still going to be ortopaedist?" My attending was like "How do you know Dr. Ho? And how does he know what you want to do?" Yay path lab.

Those lectures drove me crazy. The notes were fairly good and so were the lectures for that matter, but the slides were impossible to study because none of them were labeled. I found it hard to even listen to the lecture the first time through because I was frantically trying to keep track of what picture meant what when he showed us, so it would make sense when I went back and studied the powerpoint.

I also watched the videos, because my bro swore they would be very useful to me. They pretty much covered the same stuff as the lectures.

You had a brother who graduated from MCW?

Yeah, class of 2007. He's doing his internship now in ortho in Omaha. And his wife, whom he married during the summer between M1 and M2, is in her 1st year of peds.

just requested that the 2010 threads all be merged as well. can't let 2009 look like the only heavy duty posters here...

Hey Matt, when are they having their baby? I hear things through the grapevine.
