Yeah, that's pretty much my strategy. Not worth going through all the old blocks' material. I might page through all my old notes once or twice (I've got them all in order in two binders) just so I pick up the high yield tidbits that some of these profs are likely to test on again.


Just an FYI:

Starting on or around May 15, 2008, a transition period will begin in which the number of items in current forms of the Step 1 examination will change from 350 items to 336 items. Although the transition will occur quickly at many test centers, there may also be some locations where the changes take slightly longer to complete. The overall transition period will likely last approximately 6 weeks. The length of the examination day will remain unchanged.

The decrease in the number of items per form will be accounted for in scoring the examination results, so that scores on new and old forms will be comparable. Because of these changes in timing, as well as modifications to the test item pool and the processing load caused by a heavy volume of test takers, there will be a delay in score reporting for most Step 1 examinations administered in the second half of May and June.

The target date for reporting Step 1 scores for most examinees testing from May 15 through late June will be Wednesday, July 16, 2008.

Raff didn't write the questions for his section. I think Gauthier did, and they weren't bad. I just had to look at my test to figure that out though.

Using the table attached to your results, this approximates a Step1 three-digit score of 175.

Interesting. Just like last year, my performance relative to the mean vastly exceeds my usual standing relative to the mean. Why can't I be a rock star on the tests that actually count? Here's hoping this means my step 1 will be a gold star on my residency applications...

Ugh, if I move from this apartment as planned, I will not miss the idiots upstairs who bang around like elephants. The previous occupants were a married couple, and the husband weighed at least 200 pounds, and I almost never heard them making any noise upstairs (except for sex and the crying baby....), but the 9-year old upstairs is constantly making a huge racket. His mom makes a ton of noise too when she exercises...

I love it that McDonald's has Tillamook ice cream.

I hope I can at least interview at OHSU. The son of a med tech that I worked with in HI is an ortho resident there.

I wish I could decide after my sub-I, but for scheduling reasons, its too late.

I figure I have to decide in the next couple days. If I'm going to apply for an away rotation at Madison, I have to get my crap together soon because they start accepting apps in "early May." If I don't do ortho, I won't do an away. So if I decide now, it'll save me some work, and I can start changing a few things on my 4th year schedule on April 30th.

Small amounts of snow are better than the perpetual drizzle of Portland's winter. Summer is great there. It'll rain once a month or so during the summer...smells good.

Mayo has an anesthesiology program in Phoenix if you're a fan of perfect winters, springs, and falls.

Oh, don't go with Wauwatosa Dental Group, they're impossible to get into see. I see Dr. David Toy, his office has been good with working me in as a med student.

They couldn't work me in after my tooth broke, and I had a root canal. Just not a good experience.

I've had 2 crowns (here, insurance paid for ~50%) and a root canal (out of network, but the insurance paid for most of it). Copay for visits is $10.

Your budget increases. There's only so much you can get from the government in the unsubsidized or subsidized... whichever is the good way to go before private loans.

The HMO paid for my $900 emergency root canal in HI.

I like my teeth, and the idea of losing one/chipping one, getting crowns, bridges, etc., just weirds me out. So I try to go to the dentist often. My mom took us to the dentist every 6 months religiously.

I'll second Splat's suggestion. My brother set up paintball for a bachelor party he was planning and it was a big hit.

Brewery tour (there is a boat that will cruise around Lake Michigan and take you to 3 or 4 of the breweries downtown for their tours)
Booze Cruise on the Edelweiss
Fly off to Vegas for the weekend, just you and him and maybe another friend or two that can afford it.
