MCW Class of 2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Whole foods is awesome. Esp when you're on rotation at Columbia-St Marys. My preceptor's office is above Whole Foods, and so when a patient cancelled, we went on a fieldtrip to get treats.

you guys might know this - what kind of options do we have around here for pre-paid phones? I'm feeling a bit disinclined to sign onto another 2-year contract, especially when I often don't use my phone very much.

If you're a very low-volume user, I recommend T-Mobile. Go to a real store, not the mall, because you have to explain everything to the mall people and make them set you up.

But the thing is you can buy 1000 minutes for $100, and they're good for a whole year. The per-minute price isn't exciting, but the fact is that a low-volume user can have phone service for a year for $100, plus the price of the phone. Reception is decent with a Nokia candy-bar phone.

i use att and i love having the minutes do the switching thing at the end of months! excpet I almost always go over lol!!

That is a good idea too - the rollover minutes. Before renewing any contracts, I'm going to go back and see how many minutes I use per month and see if the contract is a deal.

2008+4=2012...

Hi all, I got my acceptance on Monday. I plan on being there next year. On what date do classes start?

I graduated from college in 2006. I am currently living with my parents... I am hoping to move to Milwaukee early if I can find a job in Milwaukee.

Orientation is typically the second Monday in August, with classes starting the next Monday.

According to the 2008/9 academic calendar, orientation starts on 11 Aug.

Take special note of 15 May 2009! Woot! (5 years to the day after I graduated from college. And just under 10 years after I graduated from high school.)

Yup. Graduated from high school 5-22-99. uh, i think college was 5-8-04. and then again in december. i got to party twice.

i graduated in the "smoke free class of 2000."

they started that very early on....i got a t-shirt for it in 1st grade.

I was so close....I broke the smoke free promise, for which I had a little laminated card, about 3 months before graduating.

our unofficial class motto:

sex, drugs, rock and roll
waterbeds and birth control
we can f**k really fine
cuz we're the class of '99

I got one of those drug-dealer phones for the interview season because I knew I only needed a second cell phone while I was traveling. It was like $20 for the phone and then 18 cents a min to talk. You have to pay in increments of like $10 and you have to put $20 on there every 3 months regardless of whether you still have a balance, or you will lose it. It worked out pretty well for me to just keep for 3 months. I would really only call my wife to tell her my hotel phone number so she could call me right back, and when my plane landed so she could pick me up.

I did constantly get calls for the previous owner of the number, so I would leave it off the rest of the time.

Really? Your class didn't try to shove that damn prince song down your throat all year? ugg.

Mine sure as hell did. Well, that and that annoying "Hope you had the time of your life" Green Day song.

That was played at my sister's graduation in 2000 and it ruined Pachabel's Canon in D.

The weird song in 99 was that Baz Luhrman Trust Me on the Sunscreen thing.
ha, I never noticed the chord progression was based on Canon in D

Why is it they only ever play the first couple lines of Pomp and Circumstance at graduations over and over? I actually like the rest of the piece that no one ever gets to hear.

Someone could be brainwashed to commit some awful crime during graduations, like killing the Prime Minister of Malayasia, because of Pomp and Circumstance being played over and over.

I liked U of A's graduation, since there were like 3500 people who graduated at one time, they had all our names scrolling on the board thingy in the middle of McKale center (the basketball place), then they had all the honors college people stand up at one point. No reading of everyone's name individually, and our speaker was some former Arizona basketball player who went pro. Then we threw tortillas. Throwing tortillas was the best part of college grad.

High school grad was just fun because graduation is more fun in HI with the leis and such and everyone walks around looking like a swamp monster.

We threw tortillas in high school every year when we played our rival school (from Spanish Fork, although tortillas are obviously not Spanish). The administration hated it and eventually resorted to videotaping the crowd during that game and suspending anyone who threw tortillas. I think everyone might even have been frisked for tortillas one year.

If I were a college in HI I would let everyone throw Spam at graduation.

That'd be smelly. In college everyone gets leis too. I got leis at Arizona because my family brought them over from Hawaii from a bunch of our friends.

At Arizona we weren't technically allowed to throw tortillas because it was demeaning to the Mexicans. However, we weren't allowed to be frisked either, we just couldn't carry them in, in our hands, therefore, I carried them in for my roommate and me in the pockets of my cargo pants -- worked just fine.

Go google "Pachelbel Rant" on YouTube. It's hilarious.

does milwaukee have a subway system?

Nope, sorry. Of course, if there were one, I'm sure it would be gross and dirty and you wouldn't want to use it anyway.

Me, too! Me, too!!! Yay for '06ers!

for us, in 02, it was Graduation Day by Vitamin C, if you can even remember who she was.

Aaaah, that was the graduation song for my high school, too. Whenever I hear that song (which is close to never at this point), I think about how my friends and I went scavenger hunting at the Hartsfield-Jackson airport....too bad we can't do that anymore.

Now, I'm not sure if we had a graduation song for my college graduation. Aww, that's really sad, now that I think about it. I'll just have to make up one.

No subways/tubes/metros. They've got a crappy looking bus system that closed the other night because of the snow.

I'm anti-public transportation (esp buses) in cities like this in the US. I've never been to NY so I can't comment about that, but I don't mind using public transport in Europe.

what's wrong with the bus? 🙁

Yes it does. Maybe not as big as southern California, but it has more of one that Tucson and its 2 freeways, and Tucson's bigger than MKE.

I was just speaking to the random exit closures downtown. Traffic is really easy to avoid here in milwaukee because of the grid-like side streets.

I rarely drive downtown. I get lost almost any time I go there, unless it's to and from St. Mary's.

All I know is the Dert's constuction and the Marquette Interchange's construction are going to be done the day I leave WI because that's how construction works. Wherever I move, there'll be construction.

I never went to my highschool graduation, on account of graduating early and already having started college when the graduation occured.

However, that vitamin c song was played at my middle school graduation... am i that much younger than you guys? hmm..

I don't remember a class song in high school, although I could probably go look at my yearbook and find one. In college, the class song was "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond. I have no idea what the reasoning was behind that one, and we were all pretty drunk when we voted on it, so maybe that's it.

How hard it is to find apartments with covered parking?

I think most of the complexes (e.g. Normandy village, reserve, etc) nearby have garage parking for an extra fee. Most of the privately owned buildings nearby school I'm pretty sure don't have covered parking.

somebody else should probably help me out on this one. I'm not sure I was qualified to answer it after all. Damn.

No, no, no! You're 100% qualified to answer this question! 😉 From your post, I found out that Normandy Village has garage parking. 😀 Thank you!
