Ooh, book talk, my favorite!! 🙂
I'm currently in the middle of a book called On Intelligence about a new theory of how the neocortex works and how we could make computers that "think."
And as for travel books I find a good Michener will keep you busy even through the very longest of long flights (but I'd stick to the one's named after a place since some of the others kind of suck).

thanks! i love book talks as well. i'm trying to read a ton of books before school starts...

sunkid23 When in the year does the snow start clearing and the cold weather start to diminish in Milwaukee?

I don't know about Milwaukee, but it definitely is still cold and snowy until mid March in Minnesota. ugh.

It gets warm sometime during the year... there's really no guessing.

i <3 mario party 🙂

but ever since i got guitar hero mario party has gotten no love from me

and apparently im the only nerd reading fantasy novels here? raymond feist anyone? 😀

Last fantasy novel I read (I tend to re-read it because i like the main character) was The Deed of Paksennarion.

Quick question for those of you who are currently enrolled at MCW.

A couple of weeks ago I went out to Wauwatosa to check out the area around the school and see what, besides the medical school, there was in the area.
I didn't really see anything in the neighborhood...no bars, no coffee shops, nothing.
Where do the people go? I assume everyone doesn't flock to Milwaukee on a Tuesday evening for a beer.

Thanks

I think you must have missed downtown Tosa or in general Bluemound Rd. Downtown tosa has a few bars and restaurants as does Bluemound rd. There is also mayfair Mall which was restaurants and such. My friends and I don't really go to any clubs or bars or eat out very often but lot's of people in my class do. I really liked El Matadors on Bluemound. Very good margaritas.

 surely you jest. There are more bars in Milwaukee county than anywhere else in the world, I think. There are a few in downtown Tosa - the Chancery, Colonel Harts, and a few others I drive by, and then all the restaurants serve booze, of course. Mayfair has several sit-down restaurants (Maggiano's, Cheesecake Factory, etc), with places like BWW across the street. I've got a bar and a liquor store across from my apartment (in Tosa).

You honestly probably didn't drive into downtown Tosa, which is right down Watertown Plank road, but it takes a few twists and turns.

haha, don't worry, there are bars...the 3 close to me on state street are chancery, colonel hearts, and leff's. and if you continue like a mile or 2 more east on state street, you'll drive through heaven (people already here will know exactly where i'm talking about)

but tosa also has a starbucks and a 24 hour starbucks' not far away. Tosa is a normal suburb. In my opinion there is enough to do during the week (aka enough variety of places to study). and we're not far at all from downtown to go out there on the weekends.

Guitar Hero is awesome!!!!!! (and I hear Rock Band is cool, too) I'm trying to recall the last fantasy novel that I had read...but nothing pops up at the moment. :d

A 24-hour Starbucky?! It exists?! :biglove: Now, I can brag to my law school buddies.

Rock band is fun. One of my friends has it.

I don't like the 24 hour starbucks... I spent too much time studying anatomy there.

My brother has Rock Band and it is so much fun! The drums are awesome!!!!

... work makes me so sleepy....😴

I love the 24 hour Starbucks--it's like an MCW class reunion every night (but only the cool Starbucks-loving part of the class).

Just think, that $4/day latte habit is going to cost you $12,500 in loans by the time you pay it back.

That's alright. It's not like physician salaries are going down at an alarming rate or anything.

Im juggling moving costs and just rebuying furniture when I get to WI. Any advice for people moving from California. I saw that Ikea ships, but if there are cheaper options let me know!

Someone in the posts way earlier told me that there was an IKEA remotely close to MCW/WI. However, my plan is to buy all of the furnitures in GA, rent a truck, and drive!!! Since I need to drive up my car, might as well drag my entire family members along the long ride. 😛

Selfish? Probably not. Slightly evil? Maybe. 😀

What I did ended up being pretty cheap. I used a truck company called ABF which brings a humungus truck to your house, lets you load up your stuff, then just charges you for the amount of space you use. Minimum of maybe 5 feet of truck. Then they drive it to WI within a few days and let you unpack. I think you don't even have to pay for the gas. It ended up being cheaper than renting our own truck because we only needed 5 feet of space. Also, I was selling my car back home, so I actually just flew here and they brought me my stuff without me even having to drive (I was in Utah, so it would have been maybe a 24 hour drive. Cali will be even longer of course). Overall it was very easy.

Again, the above option might be good for you because the truck drives itself and you can drive your own car. Your family will thank me.

I went to The Chancery when I visited... $2 Long Island Iced Tea! I can get a nice buzz for the cost of one frappachino (i think i slaughtered the spelling on that one). Doesn't sound conducive to studying either way...but I think whoever was wondering about bars should worry not, because they are around.

Anyway - They announced officially that rock band is going to be released on Wii. I sure hope it happens before summer! 👍

You'll fit in just fine.

Sweet~. :horns:

Yep, that might be a cheaper option. I should look more into that. Thanks! 😉 Now only if my Volvo will break down so I can just fly up to WI and purchase a cheap used car. Then, I wouldn't have to face the long, solo drive....

Ooooh!!! I hope my friend will get it. Then, I can play it for free. Dang, I want the Wii, but I really want the PS3 more right now. Can't wait for White Knight and Final Fantasy XIII to come out. 😀

Hey, if the Volvo has a decent clearance and good tires, hang onto it. It will be a virgin to the salt and will last a while.

True. The only problem that I'm worried about is its rear wheel drive. My bf says that I have "a lead foot." 😳 So, I might accidently spin off the road and kill myself. 😱

A couple bags of water softener salt in the trunk will help. Allegedly. You can get them for pretty cheap....5-6 bucks a bag, and they last a long time. Plus if you get stuck you can slash one open with the huge knife in your commando kit and use it for traction in the snow. You do have a commando kit, I assume.

Rear wheel drive is more fun in the snow. My car is FWD, so the snow stunts are limited (you have to do donuts in reverse), but a RWD car is great for swinging the back end out on a turn.

Hey, aren't you looking to buy a cheap used car?

When my car got stuck in December, Marty (and then my mom) were like "Don't you have salt or kitty litter in your car?" I was basically like "Why would I need that? I have 4WD." Stupid CR-V.

All the vehicles stuck in the snow on the interstate in Colorado were SUVs. I think their drivers assume that the vehicle can't get stuck.

Hmmm, I figured there was a joke to be had somewhere, but I didn't see that one. Hardy har har.

I'm looking for something Japanese.

damn Mongorians.

I think I rode the yoga pirates ride last time I went to disneyland. It was relaxing.

Did any of the people accepted finish all their financial aid paper work? Furthermore, did you all request a copy of your credit report by mail or online? Congruently, I noticed I had one negative thing on my credit report; is that going to be a serious problem with MCW?😕

I'm still waiting to fill in the parental information on the fafsa, but that is because my parents don't have their taxes done until much later. But I was told that the deadline of March 14th was only for continuing students and that there wasn't a real deadline for new students. After the financial aid packets are given out to the continuing students, then the new ones get their financial aid. And I think they are given out in the order the financial aid stuff came in. Hope this helps?

One negative thing is probably not going to kill you, especially if it's something like a 30-day late payment rather than something like a complete write-off of a debt. You can call the financial aid office and ask them. I'm sure people ask all the time. I requested my online, printed it out, and stuck it in the mail.

I received the copy of my credit report online (printed out straight off of the website).

Deadline is March 14th?? I haven't even started it yet. How long does it take to fill out? I don't know what I am doing with it. I paid undergrad from savings and this will be my first time taking out student loans.
