does anyone know about medical schools which offer good scholarships to their MD/MPH students. I am interested in doing an MD/MPH.. but finances are a hinderance. Can anyone give guidance ?

my MPH & MD are being funded by federal & private loans. some ph schools offer full scholarships. some med schools offer limited funds, but nowhere near enough to cover it all. the only option i know of to get med school funded is to do a loan repayment program with a federal agency, such as army, navy, air force or national health service corps. they pay for school; you give them ~4 years after residency. i don't know of any program that funds both md & mph.

thankyou dreds... Do you know which schools offer full scholarships for MPH degrees

If you're in NY, I think you can get the Macy scholarship for your MPH. I believe it's a full ride, but you have to complete it in a year after either your second or third year. A lot of people get it 'cos I guess not a great deal of med students want to take a year off from med school. I know almost a dozen student at Mailman who are med students at CU, NYU, Downstate, or Mt. Sinai (haven't met any Albert Einstein students however..)

i've been looking around and as far as I can tell there is little funding for current medical students to take a year off for mph (although i would love someone to correct me if i am wrong!!)

the macy scholarship i belive is for nyc students only. plus, based on what the link now says:
http://www.mailman.hs.columbia.edu/hpm/macy.html

it kind of sounds like it ended this year? maybe i'm wrong...

anyhoo, if anyone hears of funding sources/scholarships/etc besides another year of loans i also would love to find out more...it seems that most funding comes for MDs who go back to get an MPH, not people who take time off during medical school.

I'm a soon to be graduate of the MD/MPH program at the Univ of Kansas. They do offer a scholarship for md/mph students but I think it only covers your MPH year. It just started this past year but I didnt get it on it. I know its KANSAS but it is a good program depending on what youre looking for.

At my school, Temple University, the combined MPH degrees do not have to pay extra for the MPH....its completely free.

Emory, I believe, picks up the tab for the MPH program for it's dual degree students.

I'm an MPH student at Columbia and heard from our Dean that the Macy scholarship is over. It's really too bad; it was a great program.

I am thinking of going to med school. Does anyone know of a program for med students going into public health that might be similar to the national health service corp? NHSC is for primary care only, which doesn't seem to include public health/preventive medicine.
