I'll be an M1 in the fall at Stony Brook, and I'm considering doing the MD/MPH program.

Has anyone done this program? I'm sure it varies from school to school, but can you tell me anything about it? For example, how hard was it to manage the workload w/ other classes?

I'm an M1 in an MD/MPH program right now. The MPH aspect shows how our role as physicians works in the big picture of healthcare. I'm particularly interested in community programs and epidemiology.

Most combined programs require 5 years total, but mine is 4 with some summer time. Most programs (definitely if they are accredited) will have a set of core public health classes and some kind of culminating project. It's not too bad so far, and a lot of the elective requirements can be fulfilled by MD classes.

There's a sticky in the MPH forum with links related to getting a public health education if you're interested.
