I am a Florida resident with strong EC Double major with cGPa of3.71 and science GPA of 3.58 and mcat score 128 inCARS 127 in BS 126 in PS and 125 inPsych I will be attending one yearmasters program in Florida and research with possible publication and currently work for a software company developing apps for medical field Do I have a shot at MD school

Short answer - probably yes

MCAT is a little low (equivalent to an old 28-29), but still within range. Probably a good idea to apply to both DO and MD, considering your GPA is alright, but not spectacular.

Thx for your reply I am fl undergrad what are my chances in florida

Florida is a "lucky state" you have a fair shot at in-state MDs, but that's about it. You're technically within range of some OOS schools but MCAT is low for OOS applicant.

Hi Goro will doing master s in medical sciences and research will help boost my application

Thx for your input outside Florida which school I can apply to Thx once again

You can apply anywhere.

As for where you should apply, I would recommend purchasing the MSAR (free if you are on the Fee Assistance Program) and looking for yourself! We are here to help optimize your list, but its up to you to create it! If you need more help, consider trying the tool listed in my signature and going from there.

Thx once again For your reply This mcat score is below my expectation as I was making around 515 in all practice tests so my list needs to be revamped will do it ASAP will ask for your input

If this cycle doesn't work out for you seriously consider a retake; the rest of your app is MD-worthy.

I'm considering taking the exam again in January as I feel a September retake would be very rushed and I would perform about the same. But that would be past a lot of my schools interview cycle and put me in the 2 year break status. I'm not sure how favorably that is viewed. I am Emr certified and while continuing my volunteer Emr work and getting EMT certified to hopefully get some paid work over the course of this year also

I'd suggest research actually, for paid work.

Many adcoms on here say EMTs are often viewed as "glorified taxi drivers" for drunk peers.

Re-taking in January isn't very wise. Why would you retake a test without knowing if you need to and risk wasting an enormous amount of time on a test that you won't need if you get in this cycle? If you don't get in this cycle re-take in May or so. That said, a Fl applicant with a 3.7/28 I still think has a shot of sneaking in somewhere. Florida State will be your best chance(where your MCAT is actually around the average). There some OOS schools worth throwing in the hat as well.

Hi can you please look at my list and help me with OOS schools

I'd remove Cooper and I can't recommend Northstate. Everything else looks fine. Your best shot will be with the Florida schools, particularly FSU where your MCAT is essentially a non issue.

Hi can you please let me know why not cooper and north state

Do you think I have any chance atUSF
A chance? Yes. But I concur that FSU is most likely.

Northstate is too new and (in my mind) kinda shady with their for-profit mantra, lack of any student housing, subpar academic staff/facilities, and no reputation. I can't imagine that all specialties would be open to CNU grads, seeing as how they only rotate at local community clinics. They're fine if your sole goal is family med, peds, and general IM.

I would only recommend Northstate to anybody who can't get into another school in the US, MD or DO. Ie I would recommend pretty much any DO program over what Northstate has to offer.

We won't know until next year.
It appears that they are looking for high stats that didn't get in this year...

I don't believe U Miami has a stated preference for Floridians, and OP's MCAT score is < the school's 10th %ile.
Why not Miami? They're private, but they still give preference to FL residents.
Definitely apply to all FL schools, except U Miami.
@Goro
Hi is there away to look at actual OOS data of accepted students.MSAR only tell you how many were interviewed and accepted OOS and generalized data of total percentile of mcat Ana GPA I could not assess whether OOS hadstats towards higher end or in middle thanks for you help

Rough rule of thumb: # accepts = 2-3x those of matriculants. It's 2x at my school; I believe it's closer to 3x at LizzyM's school, which is located in the stratosphere.
