Not too much if you can keep that upward trend. Can you increase your gpa to 3.7 by the time you graduate?

I would say it's very doable by graduation, but doing so before submitting my apps after the next two semesters will be harder.

I'm not sure how much EC's would help my app, I could always step something down and really focus on getting straight A's every semester.
for ec's I have a scholarship chair position for my fraternity, Pre-Health Peer Advisor fellowship, as well as current biogenetic research.

Thanks for your response!

Rising trends do get rewarded. Be prepared to discuss the F's in interviews.

Hello,

I was wondering what my chances are in getting into an allopathic medical school. My first semester as a freshman, I failed two classes, general chemistry and pre-calculus course which ended up in a 2.5 gpa for that semester. After that, my second semester, I retook general chemistry I and got straight A's along with general bio II. My whole sophomore year in which I just completed I had all A's including Physics I and II, Organic Chemistry I, their respective labs, along with general ed/ 2nd language courses but a B+ in Physics II lab.
Basically, every semester other than my first semester in college, in which I can say the reason why I did so bad was me being overwhelmed on taking 17 credits, being homesick, making new friends, etc etc; where as after that I made deans list each year, and just recently completing organic chem I with an A. I also have a fellow ship as a PEER advisor for all Pre-Health students at my school, along with hands on research in a lab group working on my own project regarding biogenetic studies, hopefully will have a publication soon. I will be taking Cell and Molec Bio and Ochem II during the summer, and biochem + genetics during the upcoming fall. I plan on applying for med school next year after/during my spring semester. I am a Molecular Cell Biology major.

If I do well on my MCAT, how bad would that first semester affect me? My GPA is around a ~3.5 currently coming from the 2.5 I started with.

Thank you.

it would be wise to wait to apply until after your senior year. this way your senior year grades will show up on your application and your rising trend will continue, and you open the door to more/better schools. no need to rush

would this mean I would have to wait an extra year to matriculate if accepted?

you wouldn't apply until after your senior year, so you'd have 1 year between when you graduate and when you start medical school
