I am considering doing this program at my school by continuing the summer research that Ive been working on. Does anybody know how much help it gives you when matching residencies? Especially since the field I am researching may not be related to the field I want to go into.

Research and publications usually help with residency placement. However, it depends on the specialty and location as to the extent it will.

I was told by my mentor in emergency medicine that 1 publication from a medical student was considered good and 2 or more was outstanding.
