I've been scanning the profiles for various schools on mdapplicants and it has scared the $h1T outta me!!! :scared: it seems to me the numbers on that website for each school are well above the average for matriculants. Is it generally the higher qualified students that post on mdapplicants?? eeep

I agree, but I think it is mostly people exagerating their stats.

I never had understood why people do this.
😕

They are not representative, just like SDN! You must take it with a grain of salt! Consider the average MCATS and GPAS that the schools list on their websites...They are way different than what mdapplicants shows. Don't worry 🙂

Anyone needing an example of stat inflation need look no further than Texas Tech's school of medicine admission stats on MDapplicants. They have an average MCAT of 30 and an average GPA of 3.75. Actual admission averages: MCAT 27.x and GPA 3.5-3.6.

I don't know, the above could very well be true. However, keep in mind that schools post their average stats of matriculants. A couple people with lower stats can really drop the overall average, even if dozens more people have stats well above that average.

I have always been told that if your numbers aren't above the average, then don't bother applying. I don't really agree with it, but I don't think it's entirely bogus. If the only difference between you and other applicants is numbers, then they're going to naturally take the person with higher numbers; those that get in with lower numbers usually have something else to make up for it, whether it be great LORs, awesome volunteer experiences, research, etc.
