Please stop with the personal attacks, everyone. It's not appropriate.

Noshie, would you like this thread to be closed? I think it has served its purpose of letting you vent. And again, I suggest that you delete the mean comments from your profile instead of feeling bad every time you look at them.

Geez, I decided to stop SDN for like 12 hours and when I come back I see an explosion! This thread was not a "please tell me what I am doing wrong thread." I get it guys, I need to up my MCAT, up my GPA, etc. I am prepared to do that. Thanks for the advice tho, I think I gain alot of knowledge from reading all of your posts everyday on SDN. The point I was trying to make in the beginning that has probably been lost after all this, was that it is not nice to tell people that they can't do something. I mean I dont mind when someone tells me that I probably wont get in this year, because that is possibly true, but it is unfair and very hateful when someone tells you that if you do get in you should not go and become a doctor because you will end up taking peoples lives and you are too stupid to take care of others. I find this incredibly rude. I would NEVER tell anyone nor have I ever told anyone that they are too stupid to do anything. No one has the right to do that to anyone, especially if they dont know them. There are plenty of people in the world that dont even have a 9th grade education and do incredible things.

I do have to agree with Scpod, Dr. Inviz you have been being very negitive recently. I feel that we are saying this not to be mean or rude, but to make you realize that you are better then that. With a better attitude you will get into any school you want to get into. Its not the end of the world not getting into Brandenton this year, plenty of people dont get into their first choice even with the stats to back them up. I know if you apply next year you will get in to the school of your choice, but the negitive attitude may hold you back from your dreams. It may sound like a bunch of crap to you, but I believe honestly attitude is everything.

I know no one on here can really tell what adcoms think, I always take advice with a grain of salt, but I really do value others opinions because sometimes I am not able to take a step back and look at what is really happening. So for those of you that are giving me valuable advice I thank you.

P.S. Dr. Max, I appreciate sticking up for me to those bullies on MD aps. I was starting to get depressed doubting myself and actually thinking that maybe I am "stupid" until you guys cheered me up. Thanks for the many uplifting PMs and comments.

Actually, Bradenton was never my top school option ... it only stings when your safety school pulls a BS and unproffesional move like they did ... im not delving into the details ... theres been many reasons as to me bein blunt like i am ...

A positive attitude can only get u far enough ... you also have to live in reality, not in a dream fantasy world like alotta the SDNers live in ... "can i get into med school with a 2.5 and a 10mcat?? .. ive got 1000s of medical experiences to show for ..." .. no, u cant get into med school with those grades ... bump 'em up and sure u may ... if youre gonna get rattled by comments made by others on a stupid mdapp profile (which u can easily delete) ... i dunno if i'd want you to be in the OR or ER where everything is highly intense and so stressful ... a doctor better not get rattled .. or its the ballgame. anyone can be a doc if they push themselves to their limits and beyond ... and it never hurts to have connections ...

if youre gonna get rattled by comments made by others on a stupid mdapp profile (which u can easily delete) ... i dunno if i'd want you to be in the OR or ER where everything is highly intense and so stressful ... a doctor better not get rattled .. or its the ballgame. QUOTE]

i'm so sick of everyone saying that noshie is crying about these cruel comments, SHE'S NOT!!! she's simply stating the obvious, some people on this board are dinguses. i think people like noshie (and myself!) need to prove to some of these other arrogant SDN-ers (not you dr. inviz), that people with lower stats CAN get in. it probably will take a little more work and another application cycle, but it can be done.

also, i dont think someones grades or MCAT properly portray how someone would act in the ER...

please, i'm not trying to fan the fire here, i'm just sick of people who don't know each other, making such obnoxious assumptions.

ok enough ranting.

I agree, stats dont determine how someone will perform in the ER or OR ... however, their attitude and demeanor, which noshie was quick to point out about me, is ONE OF THE top predictors of how someone will act while in those highly intensive areas of the hospital ... goodluck in proving those who have counted you out .. always shows me that these types deserve it because of the adversity overcame, and the resilience and persistence to make it into medical school.

I think you are looking at apples and oranges. There may be pressure in the ER or OR, but it's not because people are calling you stupid. Being called stupid will rattle all kinds of people. The pressure in the ER or OR is of a different nature.

On a different note:

Yes, It's only anecdotal evidence, but I would like to point out that there are people who have similar stats to Nochie's who are actually doing quite well in medical school right now. I know some of them. The material in medical school is really not hard at all, but there is a whole lot of it coming at you all at one time. Often times, the person who is more dedicated will do better than the "smarter" person because they have a better work ethic. It's not like college at all where you can make A's by studying for a few hours at the last minute. If you are used to doing things that way, and continue trying to do it that way in med school, then you will fail. It makes no difference what your GPA or MCAT score was. In fact, I really believe that high GPA's and MCAT's can lull some students into a false sense of ease. I was beaten on our last PBL test by someone whose MCAT is 10 point points lower than mine.
Three days earlier, I had been joking that this person shouldn't have even been admitted to the school. I think I learned my lesson-- karma can bite you in the ass. That's why I try to watch what I say these days.

While it is true that you won't get into medical school with a 2.5 and a 10 MCAT, you can get in with low stats. Mine are really not great, but it worked out for me. Dr. Inviz is not a bad guy, honestly. He is just cranky and misunderstood sometimes.😉 All in all, he is a decent human being, although he may not always show it on here. You will just have to take my word on that. But, there are a lot of nasty people on here who use SDN as a place to take their frustrations out on people they know nothing about. It is really unfair and childish. SDN can be a valuable resource and source of support for a lot of people. It is true, at least with the osteopathic schools, that it is not only about your stats. People do get in with lower GPAs and MCATs because the schools see the potential in that person to become a wonderful doctor someday. Supersash and Noshie and everyone else, you can go to medical school if you want to. You just have to stick with it, get the numbers up to a decent level, have great ECs, and lots of determination, strength, and courage. Don't ever give up on yourself or your dreams.😍 🙂

i dont think i ever claimed this person's mcat/gpa was the reason they shouldnt go to med school. lay off the pep-talk, cuzz you're missing the point. im sure the OP knows by now that stats dont equal performance in med school.

Just to clarify - not everyone who wants to gets to go to medical school. Surely you wouldn't argue that? "Wanting to" doesn't get you in, your application does. "Wanting to" bad enough means you'll produce a good application, although perhaps DO schools will be more lenient on what constitutes a "good application".

Yes, but I got accepted to more than one school; I chose Bradenton over the others.

you dont want to know what im thinkin right now ... Doc Mom sure knows :meanie:

LOL! No, don't want start an argument with you again. 😉

Seriously though, that is definitely true, but I believe that is only because people give up. I think if you are determined and stick with it, it will eventually happen. I guess there are probably some very dumb, delusional people who will never be able to do it. However, I don't think this is usually the case. I think people just give up. I think a lot of getting into medical school has to do with your ability to work hard. Of course, you need to have reasonably good numbers that go along with that, but I think the numbers can be there with enough hard work and determination. 🙂

DropKick, that sounds great. I think I could do OK, but I don't want to fight Nate or DrKuba, because I've met them, and I'm pretty sure they could both take me!

darn, i thought this thread was going to be a list or something on the most notoriously mean SDNers but it's not! 🙁

I agree that people give up and this may be the reason that alot of people that want to be doctors dont get in. Many people that do get in apply many many times. Some people just have to give up after a while due to financial strains, family etc. I am lucky that my family really supports me and is willing to support me financially if I need it just so I can do whatever I want in life. I just hate to ask them to pay for everything, they are already paying for all of my undergrad and my rent. I dont want them to have to support me 100% in undergrad so I work as much as I can. I am an only child so they dont really mind, but I do.

nosh- i read your posts and sometimes think we could be the same person! hahaha. power to the onlies 🙂

and i want to be in this death match for an acceptance!! REALLY!!!! and if you fight real hard, i think dropkick and dr inviz should get into their allo choices! 😉

Hey, if I'm guaranteed a spot at allopathic school, I'd be game for a fight.

We'll let our basketball teams fight it out on the hardwood. NC State v UConn.

And Connecticut as college basketball capitol of the world?? C'mon. 🙄

lol, this young team will turn it around. They had spurts of greatness against IU today. congrats on losing the 25th out of the last 28 games to Duke today😛

You noticed, huh?

State was picked last in the ACC this year. We have a new coach, 4 walk-ons, and 0 starters from last year, so there are few expectations. However, we've got some great recruits coming in next year and the year after.

State and UConn seemed to play every year in the NCAA tournament for the last few years. UConn got the best of us the first couple of times, but we had the last laugh.

AHHH!! How come you guys always turn these threads into something sports related?!?! :meanie: I am just going to start randomly talking about woman things....😉 😀

Sorry guys, can't post anymore tonight. I have to go bake my husband a pie while standing barefoot in the kitchen. 😉
