hi all!
first of all, for those of you on the MCO WL, congrats and i hope it works out for you!

just wanted to start up this thread to see if anyone has any new information about this WL. a lot of WLs have started to move, but to my surprise, not a peep out of MCO.
is this everyone else's experience as well?

what i know (which is not much): generally speaking, MCO typically has solid movement throughout june/july on their WL. there are two separate lists--one out-of-state and one in-state.
they also have high priority status within each list.

thoughts or other ideas?

much luck to all! 😎

I got a high priority status waitlist and I am an out of stater. From what I've read, they go through almost the whole list which is nice if it is true. In the letter, they said the waitlist would begin moving June 14 I think.

Jetson

Good luck to all of you on the waitist! Personally, I had a bad experience with MCO's waitlist. I applied last year (kind of late)and got on the "high priority list" as an out of stater. I waited and waited and August came and went. I never even got a rejection letter. I have heard that they went through the whole high priority list last year, but apparently not. So, thinking that I might have a good chance there again, I applied to MCO this year. I interviewed on the FIRST interview day possible and waited some more. Well, I got placed on the "high priority" waitlist again. That is a joke. I loved the school and the people, but I can't help but be bitter about it all now.

elperro, sorry to hear about your experience with the MCO WL... but thx for being honest! it's a good lesson in learning not to take things for granted. i guess it's just best to keep it real, right?

but on a brighter note, looks like your waiting paid off because you're heading off to someplace else now! congrats!

Thanks trubluwolv, one thing that I did not do was send LOI's to MCO, that may help. Also, I did not know that they have two WL's, one for in and one for out of state applicants. I would just keep letting them know that you are interested in going there. I really liked MCO and would go there in an instant because of what I saw, and more importantly how I felt while I was there. I hope you all hear back from them!🙂

Hey trubluwolv, n
Needless to say, thanks for starting up this thread. Saves all of us MCO waitlisters a lot of time searching through the threads to find snipets of information here and there.
I don't know if I told you this initially, but when I called MCO a couple of weeks ago, they said that their class is still overbooked. 🙁 And that if I didn't hear anything back from them by mid-June, I should call again and they'll tell me where I am on the waitlist. I guess that's when the waitlist is really going to start moving.
I know how you feel, it's anxiety-provoking to see all this waitlist movement from other schools and not hear anything on this thread about MCO. We'll just have to keep each other informed. 🙂

Does anyone here know how many divisions there are in MCO's waitlist? A high priority section has been discussed. However, is there a medium priority and a low priority list? If anyone knows, please share.

i haven' t heard anything about MCO labeling their tiers... but i'm not sure. they definitely have their list ranked and their top x% is considered "high priority". i would assume that they have HP, and then the rest of the list follows in rank order.

what does your letter say, exactly, about your position?

mine says:
the admissions committee has assigned your name to the top (or high) priority section of the alternate list. this means that your chance of gaining an acceptance remains good IF normal turnover occurs in the class.

arrex,
I don't know about the low priority group but I have read in another thread that someone was placed into the medium priority group in a previous year. Hope that helps.
Sp,
Still no word from them, huh? 🙁

medium tier, interesting.... perhaps they do categorize their tiers.
JZZZZZZZs--
no such luck yet... but i'm pulling for both of us! i haven't given MCO much thought lately because in the letter they said from June 15, they'd be looking at their WL. i'm just trying to remain calm until then.
but really, who are we kidding??? when june 15 hits, i will mos def be in a FRENZIED state.
what about you??? any word for other places? any luck with Cali schools?

Thx for finally making an MCO waitlist thread. I'm also in the high priority category so I'm in the same boat as all you guys waiting for June 15th to come.

welcome, Mizoguchi, to this thread!!
you hail from Cali, i see... just like JZZZZZZZZs.

thinking happy thoughts for all! june 15 can't come soon enough!
😎

MCO really likes us Cali people. I was actually told by a MCO student that we are the largest group of out of staters at the school!
Sp,
No luck with Cali schools this cycle. I'm getting ready to reapply for the 2004 cycles. Although right now, I am starting finals week and will put off editing my PS for awhile. Also, I've been waiting to hear back from the Finch AP program and Georgetown's SMP. I submitted G-Town's app way back in March and still haven't heard from them and I remember seeing that someone who submitted at the end of May was already accepted. G-Town will be hearing from me next week.
Just realized that June 15th is a Sunday! 🙁

JZ--
sorry to hear about Cali schools 🙁 i'm also waiting on submitting my AMCAS, but because i'm hoping that i'll get into a school so that i can save some big $$$.

that's so funny that you mention the gtown SMP... i just posted on that thread because my app was complete back in march, and i'm still on hold too!! i started freaking out when "nnankin" reported that he applied at the end of may and already got in!!!

i just sent Dr. Myers an email (great minds think alike, i guess!)
😀

how's everyone else doing?

You meant Dr. Myers at Georgetown right? How funny? The associate dean at MCO is also Dr. Meyers. I thought you had just emailed her.

yeah, i noticed that too... i thought i was having an "episode" when i sat down to write my thank you letters because their names are virtually the same.

but yes, i meant Dr. Myers from Gtown. 😀

i'm holding off until next week to email Dr. Meyers from MCO because of their June 15 thing.

how's everyone doing?

Any news lately? I emailed and found out I am 10th on the waiting list. I am out of state and received the high priority letter. Anyone know how many typically move off of the out of state waitlist? I know the waitlist started moving last week but the person who state that was in state.

Jetson

10th on the waitlist. That's pretty good. Did they happen to mention how many people are in the high priority out of state list? If anyone know please post.

I'm not sure how many out of state students they move on their waitlist but I was just offered a position a few days ago. I'm on another waitlist but it looks like I'll be one of the Cali students at MCO. Good luck to you guys.

congrats, Mizoguchi!!! that's great news!!

as for the rest of us, turn those frowns upside down!!! we'll be hearing soon enough!

🙁 --> 😀

Now we're finally getting some movement.... I spoke to the admissions office last week and they said that they've gone through half of their high priority list already. I don't know if this is from the very beginning or since June 15th but I'm hoping that the list keeps moving at this pace.
Congrats to those who've gotten in and good luck to the rest of us. 🙂 Keep each other posted!

Does anyone know if at this point sending supplemental information to MCO can move a candidate higher on the waitlist?

Arrex,
I dont know if sending anything helps because the list is ranked. I havent sent anything because it is ranked. As an update, last week I was number 10 on the out of state waitlist and today I called and found out I was number 6. So there is some movement......

Jetson

hey fellow pre-meds,

I was accepted into MCW earlier this week and have given up my space at MCO. I'll be in Wisconsin this fall so good luck to all you guys waiting on Ohio.

-Mizoguchi

congrats Mizoguchi--good luck at MCW!

what's the good word, people? anybody heard about recent movement, WL status, etc etc.... ?

keep on truckin!!!

Hi folks,
I got in off the waitlist in june and have turned down the acceptance today to go to NEOUCOM. Hopefully one of you will get my spot!

Hi everyone,
I called the admissions office today and found out I was number 3 on the out of state waitlist. So it looks like about 3-4 spots move everyweek with about 5 weeks to go. Good luck everyone!

Jetson

well, that's great news, Jet915! 🙂 you're almost there!
i think your estimate sounds about right at 3-4 spots each week. i wonder if the mvmt is the same on the in-state vs. out-of-state lists.

i called yesterday and they told me i was "around #15" on the list. apparently, if you're not in the top-10 they don't inform you of your exact ranking.

anyone one else call and find out different info?

saw on a different thread that you got off the WL at MCO... congrats!!!!!
did you make a final decision on where you're going? (b/c correct me if i'm wrong, but i think you've got multiple acceptances, right?)

everyone else--any movement at MCO or elsewhere? new updates? Dr. Myers is out of town this week, but Dr. Burns is still around giving offers.

as i get more and more desperate, i'm trying to keep this WL thread alive!!!! let's help each other out! 😉 😀

Thanks trubluwolv, I was fortunate to have multiple acceptances. I have decided to go to MCO over SLU mainly because of the tuition and also the fact that Toledo, although it might not be exciting as St. Louis, is probably more conducive to learning i.e. more quiet. Also, the MCO matchlist was very comparable to SLU. I'm still waiting to hear back from Creighton and Davis. If I get into either of those schools, I'd withdraw from MCO. Good luck!

Jetson

Jet,

Glad to hear you might be headed to MCO! I'm getting really excited for school to start and have finally found a nice apartment. I looked at tons of apts up there so if you need any help let me know. I agree, Toledo is not the most exciting place...but I heard from a second year that they have house parties and some fun bars around the city with U of Toledo undergrad nearby.

At work so I have to go!

Dreamin

Congratulations Jetson and Dreamin!!!! I was also lucky enough to get off the waitlist and will be joining the two of you in Toledo. (Well, maybe not Jetson if he gets into Creighton or Davis.) I'm very excited and a little nervous at the same time, being a CA girl moving to the midwest.
For everyone else who's still waiting, (especially you, sp) I would strongly recommend sending in a Letter of Intent as soon as possible. I know arrex asked a little while back whether it makes a difference or not, and even though the committee explicitly states that additional information is not necessary, personally, I think it helped me in my case. Supposedly the list is ranked, but I'm very positive that the letter I wrote helped me get into the school. So...open your word processing program and tell them that they do not have to worry about you going somewhere else if extended an acceptance!!!! (Of course, this would have to be true and that MCO is really your #1 choice.) I think the school is getting a lot of withdrawls from people with multiple acceptances, and if you can give them a gurantee of your committment to the school, I think it will greatly improve your chances of getting an acceptance.
Anyway...I wish everyone who is still waiting the best of luck. I know that it's difficult right now and that the waiting is just hovering over you like a little cloud, but have faith and be patient...it will pay off in the end!!!! Meanwhile, write those letters and send them in ASAP! Trust me, you'll feel better for having done it.

Hi everyone.

I totally agree with JZZZZZZ's...I got accepted right after my interview, but one of my good friends was waitlisted in February. He wrote a letter of intent and got in off the waitlist in late June...I think that really ended up helping him in the end. I'm sure a few more spots will open up between now and Aug, so a letter couldn't hurt.

Well can't wait to see you up there JZZZZ's and Jet, good luck to everyone still waiting!

Dreamin😉

Hey JZZZZZZZZ,
Great to see someone else from Cali making the trek over to Toledo. Have you found a place yet?? I figure I'm just gonna drive over there and get to Toledo a couple of days before orientation and find a place. What's cool is that I know someone from Cali who goes there and is a soon to be MSII. She can hopefully tell me more about the school and Toledo in general. See everyone most probably in August!

Jetson

Hi Jetson,
I'm leaving for Ohio next Friday with my mom. We're also driving since I need the car in Toledo. It's gonna take about 3 full days to cover the 2500 miles distance. Originally, I was planning to show up a couple of days before orientation but then changed by mind because I didn't want to get too stressed with finding a nice place. I think our days (and nights) are pretty much taken up during Orientation week. As for housing, both Dreamin' and my MCO student host said to avoid the area/apartments closest to campus. I'm sure your friend will tell you the same. Anyway, I hope to see you in Toledo but good luck with your other 2 waitlists. 🙂

I live in Toledo. I've worked at volunteered at MCO. Send me a PM if you have questions about the place.

Good news trubluwolv,
I got into Creighton today and will be giving up my spot at MCO on Monday. Hope that helps in bringing you closer to an acceptance at MCO. Best of luck!

Jetson
