Hi,
I am considering applying med/peds with pediatrics as my backup. I was wondering if having letters stating "I recommend this person for Medicine/Pediatrics", would be not allowed for pediatric residency? Or could I possibly use those letters for peds as well?

Thanks!

I would recommend you keep them separate, unless the med-peds program you are applying for requires a Peds Chairman Letter (which would make sense that a peds chairman is recommeding you for peds). Otherwise, use letters for Med-Peds for Med-Peds, and use letters for Peds for categorical peds. You can have the same author write two letters, one for med-peds and one for peds (and just change a few wordings). Just keep them organized and separate.
