So I was invited to interview at West Virginia University's school of medicine on Thursday March 31st (As part of Shepherd University's BS/MD program). And, while the date seems to be cutting it really close with when I find out decisions from other colleges and the like, I am very excited to have this opportunity while in high school. What should I expect when I go over there to interview?

Read through the school-specific thread, there will be discussion of MD-only interviews. I imagine there is some overlap.

If you are a girl - don't wear a really short skirt or show any cleavage. You are there to display your assets but not those assets. If you are a guy, wear a nice tie and comb your hair. Shine your shoes. No tats on display and no pink or blue hair. That about covers it.

Be positive and excited to be there. I saw so many kids that dressed well, but looked bored out of their minds.

They will probably ask questions about how you can be sure you want to be an MD while you're still in high school and don't have much (any?) clinical experience, so you should probably have an answer for that.

You should have answers to several common questions prepared and be able to answer in a smooth but not scripted way (i.e. don't memorize an answer but have bullet points).

Firm handshake and good eye contact

Tell me about yourself?
--Don't launch into talking about science/medicine and look like a total dork. Good to talk about where you are from/family/interests outside of medicine

Why medicine?
--Any relevant shadowing/volunteer experience

Why this program?
--Why do you want to do a combined program?

What are your strengths and weaknesses?
--Have more than 1 of each. A weakness should be an actual weakness but something if asked you can speak to how you plan to overcome.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Know everything in your application.

Might or might not be a good idea to have some opinion on the future of health care.

Questions?
--Should have some honest questions for them.

P.S. Why do you want to do a combined M.D/B.S. program and do you really want to live in Morgantown? That place is rough.
