May want to check out the safe medical device act before discarding any device. There are some tracking requirements (esp for explanted cardiac devices). For some it is important to document whether or not they work. I have called manufacturers before when in doubt - in general they are helpful.

It all gets incinerated. 🙂

Usually manufacturers of devices with batteries, such as pacemakers, spinal cord stimulators, deep brain stimulators, baclofen pumps, and other nerve stimulators want the devices back due to FDA device tracking requirements. And batteries shouldn't be incinerated because of environmental concerns. Please coordinate with clinical teams since the device manufacturer representatives may be present during device procedures.
