Hey guys,

I'm meeting with a board member of admissions for DO school I'm interested in and I'm brainstorming questions to ask. I have a steady list of questions so far in relation to my app but I just don't want to miss anything. Anyways, are there any critical questions I should be asking? I'm applying this June and taking the MCAT in January.

Hmm DO mentality, community outreach, where they do clinical rotations, future of osteopathy. Whatever interests you really.

In response to any question they ask you, make sure to bring up your commitment to osteopathy's holistic approach.

For example: "Hi! What's your name?" "My name is ____. Personally, I prefer a holistic approach."

Practice with a friend or family member beforehand.

Sarcasm doesn't travel well over the electrons.

In all due seriousness, we hate hearing "holistic" from interviewees, as if it has some magic qualities. It's also insulting to our MD colleagues to imply that they're not practicing holistic medicine. It was probably true that DOs were more holistic 50-100 years ago, but the world has moved on.

I'm not sure what you mean by "critical" questions, but the 2018-2019 cycle hasn't even begun yet, so I don't think you will accomplish much or improve your chances by asking those questions. That being said, if your goal is to simply learn more about the school and their application procedures, then you can ask any specific questions that you cannot find answer to online.

Ask them if they receive routine OMM or if they have ever received OMM? (Maybe it'll give you a chance to bond and share a brief experience of your own... if applicable)

It'll show you know exactly how different DOs (DOs who practice OMM) are from MDs 🙂

Plus how they view working for such an institution, and whether they actually know the difference in practices
